What Size Starting Battery for Perkins 4-154 ?

I have not been able to find a maunfacturers recommendation on CCA for this engine. I am thinking a group 31 AGM with alledgedly 970 CCA should be adequate but am looking for confirmation as to what others may be using on this engine. House bank is currenlty 6 group 31 gels and a 4d gel starting but I want to go to AGM all around. I just thought the 4d was overkill for starting.

I should think a group 31 AGM would be fine.

Note that CCA and MCA are not directly related to the ability to deliver enough amps for cranking the engine. Rather, they are estimates of how many amps can be delivered in 30 seconds, at zero and 32 degrees F, respectively.

AGM batteries can deliver, and accept, lots and lots of amps. Certainly enough to crank a 4-154 under normal conditions.

Of course, a 4D AGM battery could crank your engine for a longer period than could a Group 31.
