Which Inverter?

We are looking to replace our modified sine wave inverter with a pure sine wave inverter to keep our electronics happier and working better. We currently have a Xantrex XM1800 and are looking for about the same spec and size (most important!).

I'm looking at the Xantrex Prowatt SW 2000 and the Samlex SSW-2000-12A. Does anyone here have any experience or opinions on these two inverters?

Re: Which Inverter?

Take a look at Victron-they make top of the line equipment.

Re: Which Inverter?

Yes Victron makes great equipment, but between the size of the space I have and price they don't fit

My experience, with inverters you get what you pay for. Did you look at the Victron straight inverters or inverter/charger? The inverter/charger is much larger.

If the Victron doesn't fit maybe Mastervolt? They are also good gear. Xantrex I have heard a lot of complaints about quality, reliability and really bad customer service.

Re: Which Inverter?

We have a Xantrex Freedom SW 2012 charger/inverter because we needed a pure sine wave inverter. We've had the system for two years and it has worked very well. Besides good reliability, I like the Xanbus System Control Panel which provides a lot of information about system and battery performance. In retrospect, I think we could have used their 3000 system for our boat because we have to do careful power management sometimes. Xantrex is part of a larger privately held company now, Mission Critical Electronics.

We have Victron MPPT controllers for our solar system and I like their display panel. I likely would have bought a Xantrex solution, but Xantrex exited that market. As previously mentioned, Victron has a good reputation for chargers/inverters, so I would consider them in the future.

Re: Which Inverter?

Both Mastervolt and Victron do have good inverters, but little choice for 120V as far as I can tell and unfortunately neither have one which will fit in the space I have.

The XM1800 is mounted on a wall and it is pretty much using the width of the wall up with its 393mm depth. I can go wider than its 211 and height is really about what make sense when mounting it on the wall.

So far the only two that meet the size and wattage (~2000W) that I have found are the the Xantrex Prowatt SW 2000 and the Samlex SSW-2000-12A. (Unless I missed one other than perhaps the more expensive Xantrex Prosin 1800)

I think the Victron Phoenix 2000 compact can be set to 50 or 60 Hz output. Dimensions in mm HxWxD. 520 x 255 x 125

As far as I can tell the Victron Phoenix 2000 compact is only 230V, our boat is a 120V boat...

Re: Which Inverter?

Sterling Power has a good reputation for quality, worth taking a look. I was looking at their inverters recently. I cant comment on the sizes of the units though or the actual performance.
