Wind generator ID

Good morning!

Can anyone identify this wind generator?

We’re going to close on the boat next Friday (if the storm doesn’t tear it up [emoji1695][emoji1317]).

The owner says that it hasn’t worked in some time and the boat has no solar, so I’m toying with the idea of trying to get it going. Any help or input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: Wind generator ID

Yes that is a 914. Do you know what model controller it has with it?

If it is the old heat sink type controller it probably burned up in high winds and the reason it isn't working (this happened on our 913). The new controllers are better, but a little pricey.

Don't expect too much power from this wind gen. Will say they are quiet, but would take your $$ and spend it on solar. You will get more power and consistent output w/solar. Just my 2 cents based on my years of experience w/our Rutland.

If you do want to work with it/save it, in storm prep have the current owner take it down or tie off the blades to keep it from spinning too fast.

Edit: trouble shooting link for the 914

Thanks Bill. No, I don’t know which controller it has. It wasn’t mentioned in the survey other than that the seller told the surveyor that it was inoperable.

I’m not going to bother the seller. He’s in St. Pete, in the sights of the storm, and we’re supposed to close next Friday. He’s got enough on his mind. I’m probably going to take your advice & go with solar.

Hi, if I found myself in your shoes I think I would attempt to fix the rutland (you already have it) and add solar as well, they compliment each other rather well.

I’ll certainly explore it, if all goes well with Ian & I have a boat.
Thanks, Bob!
