Wiring for shower sump sensor switch

I have to replace the electric field sensor switch in the shower/galley sump. The old one is an electric field sensor switch like in the upper left corner in the attached wiring scheme. I want to replace it with a simple float switch like the one in the upper right picture.
I am pretty helpless when it comes to wiring the electrical stuff. What I don’t understand is this: The old switch has three wires, while all the replacements I can find have two. I have attached a wiring scheme as it is by today.
Could somebody who knows this stuff point me in the right direction of what goes where?
Thanks in advance!
Walter

Panel Red to either lead on float switch.
Float Switch to Pump Brown.
Pump Black to Panel Black.

Re: Wiring for shower sump sensor switch

How long did the old switch work before failure? I just installed the exact switch in our dinghy bilge pump and it failed in a week. Probably didn't even pump more than once or twice in that week.

I have had previous versions of this switch - before they were bought by Whale - that are still working fine after 10 years.

Sorry for the thread drift, but I wanted to know if these switches are crap now or if mine was a one-off failure.

BTW, our Whale electronic switch only has two wires - are you sure yours has three?

Mark

Being an electronic device your old switch had to have power to operate, i.e. positive and negative. The third wire was a positive power wire to the pump which had it's own ground.

All you need to do is run the positive supply to one of the wires on your two wire switch and the other to the positive wire on the pump. The negative wire on the pump should remain connected to the negative wiring.

Yes. That is a proper correction.

Re: Wiring for shower sump sensor switch

Thank you all for your help! Will get to it next weekend.
Mark: I don't know what brand the old switch was. It has been there doing its job for the last 15 years. I just picked a photo from a Whale switch from the internet to show what it looked like.
Fair winds to all!
