Is this an actual America's Cup boat? Can you post pics? I can sure see why you wouldn't want to retrofit a wire through the mast. Assuming there is a 12 volt supply to the cockpit, I'd just buy the Davis light & be done with it. Just plug it in & hoist it. Then you don't have to worry about batteries. Whatever light you use don't hoist it up the mast because it will block half the light.

Here's another plug in anchor light. Might be better than the Davis. I think I'll get one just to have as a spare anchor light. I agree with previous posters about masthead anchor lights. If you've ever entered an anchorage at night with no moon out you know masthead lights can blend in with the stars making it hard to tell where a boat is.
