Re: CT Owner Group

The boats built in the CT yard in the 1980s are fairly similar, not in design, but in terms of the build quality. In the marina that I am in presently, there is a CT 41, a CT 44, and my CT 47. The hulls are solid fiberglass, the decks are cored and will have rot from deck leaks in some spots. Some of the stainless steel hardware will have to be replaced. The interior teak will be good where it is solid wood and bad where it is veneer. Engines will probably have to be replaced and there will be loads of sanding and painting. If you have the time and money to do the work, they are good boats worth fixing up. But you need to figure a couple of years of hard labor and a hundred thousand dollars of ready cash to make it happen. That is whether the boat is free or cost $50,000. The CT 41 is a handsome Bill Garden design, the CT 44 is a double ender Tanton design, the CT 47 is a Kaufman-Ladd design that is the only racer cruiser in the lineup, the CT 54 is a roomy and beautiful and good sailing traditional Bob Perry design, and the CT 65 is a Perry design along the lines of the 54. Laura Dekker owns one of those. The hulls are still strong today, and if they had not used so much teak veneer, the interiors would still be an unusual example of great woodworking.

Re: CT Owner Group

Hello fellow CT owners. We have a 1981 Bill Gardener CT42 Mermaid Hull 39. Do any of you CT History Buffs happen to know how many of these were made? How many are still out there cruising?

Thank you,

Re: CT Owner Group

Hi KH!, I have a CT42 also, centre cockpit, no idea the numbers out there but they are sparsely populated world wide. Tough to track all at once but they show up for sale randomly, which means we know where they are just before they move, lol. Maybe we should start a subgroup for CT42s only see who shows up.

Re: CT Owner Group

Thank you,

Yes they are hard to track. We purchased ours in SanDiego CA. We understand that there is one in Portland Oregon, California somewhere, The GreatLakes, KeywestFl. And a couple in Europe. I thought I saw one awhile back in Spain. So that’s 7 or 8 that I know of.

Oh by the way for future knowledge. There were NO CT’ s other than the 54 were designed by Bob Perry. There was a CT42 Mermaid Ketch on yacht world that stated it was designed by Bob Perry. So I Call Mr. Perry and he stated his only design for the TC brothers was the 54. He did he did work for them on certain issues but his only design was the 54. Apparently he has had issues with people dropping his name to better sell boats. So buyer beware.

Re: CT Owner Group

Just leaving a short message here; I live in Taiwan, 15 minutes from CT Yachts, and be on the yard several days a week.
We are sailing/maintaining some smaller keel-boats for them, kind of closed wallet project.
However, the yard also owns a CT38 (Warwick), which they bought back from the States some years ago.
Teak deck has been replaced recently, and it is waiting for the launch.
I am not directly involved in their business, but know the people (2nd generation), and if any interest, I can see what I can do.

Re: CT Owner Group

Hi to all of the CT enthusiasts:

I wanted to let the group know we have put our beloved CT54, Flying Cloud up for sale. She is in Tacoma, WA (near Seattle). We purchased her back in 2008 from Sandra Sullivan - the original founder of the Yahoo CT group. If you know of anyone that has dreamed of owning a CT54. I would love to hear from you.

Happy sailing
