2017 Fountaine Pajot Helia 44- $299,000- Miami

This vessel was overturned in hurricane Dorian in Abaco, Bahamas and sat with the saloon roof in shallow water. Minimal damage to the saloon and cockpit roof. The rig was badly damaged and discarded. New rig should not be more than $50k installed. Sails are in good condition and included in the deal. No broken hatches or windows. Hulls, topsides and deck in very good condition. No structural damage to bulkheads or hulls. The Volvo 55hp Engines remained dry and are running well with very low hours (around 300). Need new stop/start panel and tachometer. The generator was had some water intrusion in the storm surge, engine side is ok but electrical (back end) side will probably need some work or replacing. Various lifelines and rails need replacing, one davit has a crack that can be easily welded.
Engine hatch covers missing.
3 floor panels in the saloon missing.
Navigational Electronics need replacing.
AC switch panel in saloon needs replacing.
All cockpit cushions in good condition, saloon cushions missing.
All mattresses in good condition.
Steering is good.

The current owner has 25 boats so has not done any work on it, he is looking to sell as is.

The youtube channel Parlay Revival early episodes is a group that buys and fixes up a hurricane damaged Helia, I think. A lot of work. His summary - if you are handy and plant to do the work yourself, it makes sense. Otherwise, not. He hired a surveyor that discouraged him buying the first boat he was considering.

One can buy an undamaged 44 that may be a little bit older in the 300’s so this one at this price doesn’t seem to be a good deal. Now with all things dependent on strong economy like luxury boats the prices will come down across the board. I’m looking for a CAT as well right now. Not afraid of working on a boat either so I’ll be watching !

According the her broker she doesn't need all that much doing, but I believe she's currently in the middle of a purchase deal regardless. Many of our sellers are reducing around 10% currently, so if you can, it's definitely a good time to be looking!

I'll keep you posted if the sale falls through! We have a few project boats at the moment, a lot of them from hurricane Dorian- I will slowly be posting all our boats but I'm trying not to flood the classifieds all at once.

Parlay Revival had a good discussion on the cost/benefit of a hurricane damaged catamaran in this weeks episode (they fixed up a badly damaged Lagoon 450). A couple take aways for me. 1) it was the only way they could afford the boat so economics were secondary 2) the resale value of a non hurricane damaged repaired cat will be less than one that wasn't. 3) it was way more work than they expected. Don't know 2 or 3, but for those where 1) is true I guess it makes sense.
