Best Textbook for Marine Weather/Meteorology?

I am taking the USCG Auxiliary course in weather (AUXWEA) and the PDF text looks good enough (https://www.mysaltyboat.com/sites/my...EA_Student.pdf), but maybe just a bit dated and, frankly simplistic.

Are there texts that are especially well regarded in the way that Chapman's is for Piloting or Bowditch/Dutton is for navigation? I would ask the local US Power Squadron, but they are a little PO'd at me for not signing up for their course.

Van Dorn.

It's at a pretty high scientific level. If you're looking for the end-all definitive guide that even a scientist would reference, here you go.

As a splendid introduction, the paperback Instant weather forecasting by Alan Watts is a must.

A bit UK based but for a very good overview of what's going on in 3 dimensions with plenty references to the limitations of forecasting Frank Singletons recent release is well worth a look. On Kindle so you can download a free chapter.

This isn't a beginner's book, but it certainly made transparent how to get the most out of synoptic and the all-important 500 mb charts:

Storms don't threaten commercial shipping the way they do small yachts, but they do cut into the bottom line of fuel consumption and damage/loss of containers, so adjust your takeaways accordingly. It's a fascinating read for me.

I like modern Marine Weather by Burch. Also Severe and Hazardous Weather by Rauber.

Something's severely cock-eyed with that price. The new, second edition is available in Canada for $46 down the road from me.
