marine weather in the Med - best sources

Hi
We are currently cruising and planning to cruise from Barcelona to Croatia. Till now we have been using the internet for weather forecasts but I would prefer not rely on it. I have a SSB radio that I hooked up to my laptop and managed to dl some navtex and weatherfax but I find it a bit flukey and unreliable. What options are available?
I read in the cruising pilot something about GMDSS. Is that forecasts on marine VHF? Is there a way to receive those via text on the VHF?
Or is a stand alone Navtex decoder the best option?

You might get something of interest from DWD via rtty on 10.1Mhz:
Radio Teletype (RTTY) Weather Forecasts / Franks-Weather | The Weather Window

Or maybe not, it's more focused at North Sea/Baltic but worth a look. It also broadcasts coded actual weather reports from all over, JVcom software decodes these automatically.

There's quite a good overview of GMDSS on the same site.

I haven't spent much time in the med but gather the weather can be very localized - good luck
