Ah yes . . . those political beliefs again. I agree they really should have nothing to do with scientific opinion. Yet politics keeps getting injected into it by some people again & again. Must be those Koch brothers & their propaganda machine preventing people from understanding how easy the science really is. They probably cooked up the satellite data too, and have Drs. Christy & Spencer on the payroll. Those two are privileged white guys after all. Not that we want to profile or disparage anyone . . . .

This one's different. It's exactly like when we discovered gravity, that the earth was round, and smoking is hazardous to your health. The science is settled, case closed.

Re: Ocean Concerns

Ecept there isn't a set of the most massively powerful infinitely wealthy corporations threatened by the fact of gravity.

The parallel to the tobacco lobby is striking however.

Just keep it in the ground

Of course there is one far out left wing organization that the deniers and skeptics should be able to believe about climate change. And that is...(drum roll please)... the US Military. They certainly do believe that Global Warming or should we call it Climate Disruption is a threat to national security...of every country in the world.

Good to see you back 3rd day.

Yes, it's always good to be one step ahead of the scammers.

Like when big Tobacco tried to tell us the medical scientists were wrong, and smoking Tobbaco was perfectly safe.

Like when the Asbestos industry tried to tell us asbestos was perfectly safe against the indications from medical science.

Like when religious groups tried to convince us that evolutionary science was completely wrong and only they held the secrets to creation.

Like when the DDT producing companies sued the EPA for restricting the use of DDT.

Like when the Thamaldhide drug producing companies tried to sell their drugs to preganant women dispite indications of the harm it could do.

And like when the trillion dollar fossil fuel industry tried to convince us that CO2 was a perfectly harmless byproduct of burning fossel fuels, and the scentific community was just trying to get themselves fithy rich by promoting false and alarmist science.

Usually following the biggest money and/or power trail works to spot the scammers.

Bingo....
You nailed it.
The MMGW scam industry is 100% entirely dependent on Government research and grant dollars. So imagine if you will a report that said the issue I've been getting Billions of Government money to study and warn against isn't happening. Isn't really a threat. The scam scare models were wrong.
Yep...follow the money indeed Snowpetrel and you will find the fraud in the MMGW movement.

Re: Ocean Concerns

How sad.

The day will come that fossil fuel companies and their PRostituted think tanks, pet pseudo-scientists etc will be sued out of existence for misleading the public about the risks of climate change.

Far more damaging to humanity than the tobacco lobby.

Re: Ocean Concerns

that sounds about like the predictions of the Climate Models which turned out to be proven false when the harsh rocks of reality crushed the hull of the Ship named Models.

Remember the scientific models that said Hillary had a 97% chance of becoming President? Models are based on inputs and assumptions. garbage in...garbage out.

Re: Ocean Concerns

Ha, Third Day, not going to bite on that one today! Somehow I don't think the average scientist is in this for the money or fame, though there are exceptions of course. At any rate the money spent on scientific research is a far better investment for the world than the same money spent on superyachts and mansions for the top 1%. Opps maybe I did just bite?

Ultimately most of our improved standard of living has come from advances in science.

https://mobile.nytimes.com/2004/04/1...ow-is-ddt.html interesting article on DDT and it shows why honest scientific debate and effective leadership are so important with complex and emotive issues.

I have been very impressed with the broad accuracy of the models used for weather forecasts these days. The accuracy overall is far far better than anything we could have dreamed of 25 years ago. Afaik many of the climate change models are pretty good and they are rapidly improving all the time.

Modeling is a very useful tool, but like anything else you do need to understand the limitations and complexities envolved with each model and dataset.

Re: Ocean Concerns

Yesterday I read in some publications the biggest iceberg is just about to melt and the sea level could rise by 6m (18ft) in a very short time.

Guess what - great news! The area we can sail about in the future will be larger and the blue water region too - it will be warmer!
And we can do drive-trough shopping with our boats...

Yesterday I read in some publications that Yellowstone is just about to erupt and the whole of North America could be buried in 20 metres of volcanic ash.

Guess what.....
