PredictWind - key to map symbols?

Hi everybody and apologies for asking a question on my first post. I have just received a message from friends who are sailing from Norway to Svalbard who have asked me to research the meaning of a symbol which has appeared on their forecast as they are approaching the southern cape, they are using the PredictWind app. The symbol is a series of dashed lines and an ice crystal, coming from the east ie the prevailing wind direction. My thoughts are that is it fog and/or rime ice but that's just a guess.
Anyone with more knowledge able to confirm or suggest an alternative meaning. Could it even be a warning of sea ice?
There is nothing in the help pages or support section on the PredictWind website that I have found.
Thanks Phil

Re: PredictWind - key to map symbols?

If you have the option for "GMDSS Graphical Forecast" enabled key weather data is extracted from the GMDSS Text forecasts, and displayed as graphical symbols on the GRIB charts. The symbols you describe are the graphical representation of this Sea Ice data that is in the GMDSS Region XIX forecast:

Sounds like the symbol for "Bergy Water": https://cryo.met.no/en/understanding-ice-charts

Don't suppose you can post an image?

Sound like standard weather chart symbols. Dashed lines could be a trough, some forms of cloud, or fog. By ice crystal, if you mean asterisk over cone, it's snow showers.

You can have a look at the symbols here:

Re: PredictWind - key to map symbols?

Thanks for the link to the symbols.
I'm not onboard and their only current means of comms is through the Garmin messaging service, so a SMS type message limited to 160 characters, hence no image to share. They have just passed 76 degress latitude so sea ice is definitely a possibility but so is hail, snow, rime etc so I think they would just like a bit of certainty as to what they are looking out for. I have checked the current Norwegian Ice Service bulletin and there is ice at and around their latitude but significantly further west. I have also messaged the PredictWind support for confirmation but as they operate from New Zealand at local times, won't get a response for a couple of hours at least.
