Please do keep us updated as to what you decide, and what you end up doing.

Would be curious how this works out.

Mexico? Guatemala? "Borders are closed. Not sure if you can get in by boat."

Are you not paying attention? This bug is spread by travel. That's why borders are closed. That's why the Chesapeake is shut. Stay put. This means you.

We have spent the last 15 years cruising up and down the east coast and those dates sound just about right based on our experience. The wild card this year is the Corona virus epidemic. It's clearly going to cause disruptions to shore side infrastructure and may also result in other restrictions. New York and New England are hot spots to be avoided at all costs but you have to pass near there to get to Maine. Difficult choices to be sure. We're staying put this year at our home in south Florida but if we were headed north would try to get to Maine as soon as possible.

Do you have any idea what is going on along the East Coast right now?

Go to Maine as beautiful as sailing is likely to be any where. Endless anchorages away from crowds or plenty of nice towns and villages. Jul 15 arrival and Sep 15 would be a good time to work your boat south.

Suggest go to anchor near any boat ramp/dock where you can have Groceries Delivered by Walmart or Instacart.
....Also near a navigable river to go inland to a hurricane hole.
Florida Panhandle.

Re: Forced to change plans - where to go now?

We left the Bahamas at the end of April and spent about two months in Chesapeake Bay and July to Sept in Maine/Nova Scotia.

Our Vancouver 27 is slow, but we still had planty of time to slowly work our way north. We did 24 to 72 hour hope rather than motoring ICW. Maine is great, Nova Scotia is amazing depending on when border reopens.

Seems best to stay put for awhile, but plenty to do and see up north, but while things are shut down seems best to hunker down.

Sweden is still open to include bars and restaurants. The reality is that this will unlikely end until 80% of the population is exposed to it. At least that is what a lot of epidemiologists are saying.

to all you wanting to flout quarantine laws.. just stay home. you endanger others with your irresponsible actions. sure you FEEL great, yet you are incubating and spreading virus which will grant you a loverly FEVER and mebbe neurological issues-- they have found meningitis following a short bout of confusion as first symptoms. wake up, oh folks wanting to move--DONT.
just stay put. is only a month for now-- revel in immobility.
there are far too many deniers meandering about becoming infected and infecting others merely by their presence in same air.
my question to the deniers--what makes you so special you feel the need to violate mandates of governments. in the violation o f mandates you are endangering the health of others. why are you so special that this is according to you, your alleged right.

I may sound like the angle of death. It sounds like everyone will get it and the isolation is only to hope an effective medication is found in a short timeframe. I'm afraid it will be worse than we can imagine. The old and infirmed won't make it, like me.
Such is life.
I wish I heard something positive other than the BS from the feather merchants on TV.

Don't be negative. Yes, we need to take precautions, but don't let this get you down. There is positive information, but alas, the media gets rewarded for drama, and good news doesn't sell newspapers as they say.

There have been a few reports of WWII veterans who had it and recovered just fine. One guy said something to the effect that if he survived Guam, he knew he would survive this since this was nothing compared to his island fighting in WWII. This person was 95.

Another piece of good news is that the mortality rate is relatively low. If you compare the known cases with deaths, it is around 2 or 2.2% which is not bad at all. HOWEVER, the experts are saying that for every known case, there are ten or more that are not diagnosed. They also say that the actual mortality rate will likely be as low as half a percent.

Still more good news is that the majority of those who get it have zero symptoms, and the overwhelming majority have either zero symptoms or mild symptoms.

Yes, this is a serious issue. Each person needs to look at themselves, figure out their risk factors, and act accordingly. At the same time, people need to carry on as best they can.

Interestingly the bars are open but the border isn't, so better not sail there.

Sweden
The government has temporarily stopped non-essential travel to Sweden from countries outside the EEA and Switzerland. The decision took effect on 19 March and will initially apply for 30 days.
