1977 Bristol 40 Sloop

An opportunity to own a true blue-water cruising yacht at an affordable price! The classic Bristol 40 "Athena" designed by Ted Hood, is seriously for sale as owner has purchased another sailboat. She has solid, dry decks, beautiful interior, great sails, a reliable 40 hp Westerbeke engine and additional features include:
- Exterior brightwork professionally done by Brick Cover Marina 2019
- New head/holding tank 2018
- New dodger/bimini/connector 2018 in excellent condition
- New transmission and 3-bladed prop installed 2020
- New masthead lights/steaming/deck light 2021
- Includes spinnaker/spinnaker pole
- Bruce anchor

Asking $25,000. Reason for the low price: Her decks are completely solid/dry but need re-painting, and her centerboard is fixed in the "up" position (current draft 4'7") because the cable needs to be replaced. We never sailed her with the centerboard down, in fact, since a shallower draft works better in Long Island Sound.
She is located at Brick Cove Marina in Southold, NY (North Fork of LI)

Welcome to the forum Keith. Great pedigree for a great price. I had a Douglass&McCloud (Tartan) Blackwatch 37 designed by Ted Hood . For it's vintage it was a fast design and very seaworthy.

Thanks Celestial! Yes, it’s kind of sad to give her up, but the Catalina has a bit more living space and a tad less brightwork to maintain!

Someone who’s handy with paint can restore the decks and I think the centerboard cable is probably about 2 grand to fix at a boatyard, so they’d have a really fine yacht for $25k

Gorgeous boat! Same hull colors as my boat, which makes me like it even more! I would kill for that spot in that building, seriously!

The decks need anti skid too or just paint?

She sat out in the Chesapeake sun for too long, so basically they are ALL non-skid at this point, but very solid and no leaks/cracks.

Wow, Keith, if those pictures are current that boat is beyond Bristol. It looks incredibly nice!

Thanks Katapult! Yeah she’s actually in pretty good shape, so I’m hoping someone will grab her and do a few upgrades and they’ll have a great cruising boat but also a $40-$50,000 yacht.

Gee wiz! I would bend over backwards to own her! Amazing price! I will pay the shipping to Asia so when can we get a quote on the Deck and Keel?
