Details

This is a preview listing for Downwind Dogs 2, our 1984 Endeavour 40. She is nearing the completion of a 2 month overhaul including full replacement of all major systems on board. This is a new boat in a classic wrapper.

This preliminary listing is intended for the prospective owner who wants input to the refit. Buying now will let you determine the details to make your new boat perfect for you.

You tell us where to put the lights and fans and switches.
You tell us what electronics you want.
You tell us what color to paint the bottom.

In the next 2 weeks all major systems will be installed including:

Brand new dual alternator Beta 50
New dripless seal, cutlass bearing and remachined prop and shaft.
New 900 AH Firefly Carbon Foam battery bank
New wiring from the ground up including all panels, fuses, cabling and grounding. We ripped out ALL the old wiring with the exception of the mast.
New Victron electronics including:
2 3000W 12V Multiplus inverter chargers making this an inverter based boat suitable for international cruising.
Victron Smart battery monitor
Victron touch screen panel
Victron MPPT solar controller linked to 365 watt panel on davits.
New hot water system
New fresh water system
New electronics package (new owner can choose)
New hatch

If you are looking for the reliability of a new boat at a fraction of the cost, please consider this gem.

All new systems come with factory warranty. Motor installation completed by professional installer with direct support from Beta. Underwater work completed by yard professionals under our supervision.

This is our third major refit. We purchased this boat to cruise the ICW, Bahamas and Caribbean and will follow that plan until she sells. We have outfitted her to make her ours and invested in systems to allow her to spend extended periods off grid in air conditioned comfort.

We have found that we love the refit process as much as the sailing process and we want to sell to someone who will take this boat and make it theirs. We also know that a full refit is daunting and that a smooth ownership transition and input while systems are being installed is the best way to learn the boat and minimize problems while cruising.

Obviously as the work is still in process, price is negotiable based on the extent of work the new owner wishes to take on. We can finish the work and deliver a new-old boat to you or you can work with us to take over inflight projects. The earlier the boat sells, the more input the new owner will have in the refit.

We are currently at a stage where we are purchasing the electronics and wiring. We think Victron is the way to go but can change based on what YOU think is best.

What can be changed (as of September 1):
Electrical design
Fresh water system
House lighting and switches
Navigation systems
Comfort items

What can’t be changed:

Engine choice (the motor is onsite and dropping in on 9/2)
House bank (batteries are installed)

If you’ve ever bought a “spec” house from a builder this is a similar process. The amount of items that can be changed is dependent on how far along the house is in the building process. Same thing here….

We think the prospective buyer for this boat is:

Someone who wants to GO NOW and have the reliability of a new boat without the cost. We are scheduled to splash on 9-20.
Someone who wants an ICW friendly boat that is great for coastal cruising and island adventures.
Someone who wants the interior space and storage of a catamaran without the increased cost.
Someone who is interested in systems and refits but perhaps would prefer to work with someone who has a bit of practical experience.

If this sounds like you, reach out and we’d be happy to talk about the boat and schedule a video walkthrough. Interested parties can also view the vessel in Delaware
