1993 Vancouver 42 - Vancouver Island region - $88 K CAD / $65 K USD

With heavy hearts and busy teens we've decided to move on from our Vancouver 42 and downsize.

She is not a Tayana but was custom built on the Vancouver 42 design by Robert Harris at Seacutter Boatworks in Richmond BC for a solo offshore voyage c. 1993. So technically she is the only known custom Robert Harris Seacutter 42 as far as we're aware.

She was built for offshore and has cold molded triple planked 5/16" mahogany hull with a skim coat. Decks are not teak but fiberglass overlay. The hull is very sturdy and found true on inspection. Was out of water in 2023 for repainting of upper, of hull, and for grinding / anti-fouling / repainting of steel keel and rudder. Please note: color is now black and white, not black and red. All recommended work was completed. Heavy displacement. No bow truster = no compromise of the hull. Very high freeboard. S/s post granny safety rails on deck.

She is on a slip on the northern end of Vancouver Island BC and Canadian registered vessel. Built in Canada (USMCA) and open to assisting with US export or discussing San Juan Island / Friday Harbor delivery if you're looking to export to WA state, though one good left turn in the Pacific is your oyster. Slip is likely transferable. Marina does not permit live aboard. Vessel is insured.

The price is already extremely fair so firm please and price reflects condition per description.

She is not a project boat, though you may not wish to sail as spartan and old school as we enjoy. You can custom your creature comforts.

Lots of substantial upgrades, most notably new Yanmar 56, about 200 hours, with new exhaust, sea strainer, custom anti-siphon gooseneck for heavy weather, and double water filters. Log book.

New freezer/fridge compressors. New Emtrak AIS B. Sails were in the loft last winter and found to be in good cruising condition, with new UV strips as needed. Wind generator, Furano 1831 radar, older electrical panel and batteries, though we have had no issues with performance or underwriting.

She's a double-ended canoe cutter. Stay sail, jib, main, genoa. She's roomy inside. She has an older Sigmar (now Dickinson) diesel stove for heat and cooking, a godsend in cold, wet weather. The windlass is a commercial fishing hydraulic Delta (55# CQR) with 100' of galvanized 3/8th chain and 200' nylon rode.

As we say here in the PNW: she's skookum.

She is not glamorous and systems have deliberately been kept simple for offshore though, so if you're looking for a party cruiser boat to impress the white leather Beneteau crowd, she ain't it.

The cockpit is aft, small, and open, self-draining, with a double helm. It's just designed for heavy-weather sailing not cocktails. We did not add canvas over the cockpit though one can.

Currently no hot water tank or shower installed, though there is a spot for a hot water tank behind the Sigmar if desired and head plumbing is accessible.

Interior is solid oak panelling. Plywood floors with good access panels. Lots of storage.

There is a forward cabin, which can be bunks or converted to a double plus a bunk. Forward of the cabin is a good sized sail and rope locker.

Small head with older gear some of which could be removed to add space if desired. Off shore and tank head. Canadian compliant.

Center is the galley and another double bed / convertible salon / dining settee.

Center aft is open, lots of storage, and a single bunk / salon sofa. Full aft is battery storage in a separate locker. Very generous engine room center aft below.

Fuel gauge is manual / visual sighting not electronic. Two iron saddle fuel tanks, 120 US gal. capacity. There is a day tank for the Sigmar, hand cranked.

Electronics include VHF DSC, compass, AIS B, older Furano, after-market Hummingbird plotter, however we use C-Map off personal devices via the AIS B as primary.

S/S standing rigging. Deck stepped. External chain plates bolted through to hull. Profurl head stay. Storage locker on deck. Running rigging condition good for coastal cruising. Older (2013) 8' Walker Bay dinghy, no aux, which fits on bow when underway secured. External removable s/s ladder and additional nylon MOB recovery ladder system. No life raft (except dinghy) at this time. EPIRB does not transfer with sale.

Water storage is 160 US gal capacity in six stainless steel tanks 2 at 30 US gal and 4 at 25 US gal, located center and center aft. There is a leak in a port side aft center tank which we've not undertaken to repair as capacity has been more than sufficient for coastal cruising, the leak is adjacent to auto bilge, and for offshore we would have installed a water maker. Price reflects condition.

We are hoping to find her a new home with someone who will sail her off to the ends of the world like she's meant for.
