1996 Catalina 42’ Mark II – cruising-ready beauty! [Seattle, WA USA]

We have had to face the fact that our two boys have outgrown their shared aft cabin and we’ll need to upgrade to a larger vessel. It’s a tough call for us since we have labored lovingly on Salacia prepping her for a Southbound voyage to Mexico from the Pacific Northwest.

Once in a while, you find a boat that has had the benefit of two years of dedicated TLC, upgrades, and repairs at a sail-away price, saving you time and money. Our 1996 Catalina 42 Mk II is that boat. I am providing the full and comprehensive detail on this boat so you can learn what Salacia has experienced since we bought her in 2020. As a live aboard she is totally self-sufficient and to head offshore, needs just a life raft, wind, and loads of sun!

There are definitely cheaper 42’ sloops out there, but none with the level of investment, care, and prep that our Salacia has experienced. While you may get a cheaper boat, the amount of time that you’d need to invest to get her to this stage is significant. We are offering our cruising-ready sloop for $170,000. We are not in a rush to sell her and hope to avoid tire kickers. Having sailed and owned boats for more than 30 years, we know what she is worth.

Full listing with detailed information on upgrades over the past two years with pricing and pics available here: https://seattle.craigslist.org/.../merc ... 33530.html

Hi I'm on east coast so can't really buy your boat, but I am looking at a similar one over here. I am curious, do you know the size of the forward pullman berth, or any issues with sleeping 2 people there (myself and wife)?

The Catalina 42 was on my short list for a long time, almost bought one in 2015 when the prices were depressed enough that you could get a decent one for around $75k

If I were you, I'd be inclined to wait a bit longer. We did the same thing. Bought a boat fitted out out with 2 smaller kids in mind, then by the time things lined up, they were teenagers and had zero interest in being on the boat anyway! Might just be back to a couples boat sooner than you think.

very nice looking boat based on the pictures! too bad its the full fin version... The wing keel is much more versatile and desirable

Hi Paul,

Apologies for the delay. We are both 6'2 and have slept comfortably on her for the past two years.
