65 foot Malcolm Tennant power cat

I'm looking for a Tennant power cat around 65 feet in length to cruise the west coast of the US and Mexico. Open to a variety of layouts. Any leads much appreciated.

There's exactly one for sale in the world (on yachtworld.com), it's in a Fiji, and it's a 45.

Why limit yourself to one designer?

Yep. You really need to look around. Surely there are many more options. Maybe start with sending your requirements to the many companies that make power cats. You don't have to buy new but at least you will see some of what's out there.
Then there are the brokers and "boats for sale" magazines.

Tennant cats have an innovative hull design, allowing them to move at 15 kn on very little fuel. Strongly built, high bridge deck so there’s no slamming, can run away from any storm. You can read a very good blog written by the owners and adventurers of the yacht named “Domino.” It was in Mexico and sold a few months ago. The blog is quite detailed so if you wanna know how a Tennant works you can find it on blogger.

Malcolm and another gentleman designed a long range cruiser called the New York 52. I bought plans from Malcolm tenant’s office in New Zealand. He is deceased.

Jonathan Chapman, a broker with Worth, had a good Tennant listed last year named “Kiwi.” It was berthrd in Fort Lauderdale. You could contact Jonathan if you’re looking for such a boat as he will probably know if that one or any others are available.

Good luck

Re: 65 foot Malcolm Tennant power cat

Have a look at Roger Hill's as well (another NZ compatriot of Tennant and similar era). Also, Pachoud in NZ may have some from Tennant and Hill they've already built.

You may well have already done lots of searching (probably true since you've zero'ed in on one of, if not the, best designers of power cats in the world). But by the sounds of it you may be interested in efficient, long-range out-of-the-way cruising (sometimes called expedition). This typically means at least 50' to get the load carrying capacity because its a catamaran.

Re: 65 foot Malcolm Tennant power cat

I agree Simi, but I'm continuously surprised at so many power cats not having CS hulls when you finally get to see below the surface. The Aquilla's are a most recent example (e.g. the 54, but I don't think any of them have it), and so many one-off's. I realise CS is just a step in an ongoing journey of making the underwater shape better (for different versions of "better"!), but it's at least a proven design.
