Any Edels in the states

In the market for an Edel Cat here in the states. Any body have one for sale? Any one have any sailing or refit info for an Edel? Any info on this brand greatly appreciated. Looking for a catamaran with no wood, performance based that can handle anything you put it through. Everything I have read Edel is that boat that fits my needs.

We owned an Edel 35 from 1989 to 1999. Good boats.

They slam like crazy in deep ocean swells.

Reference for Edel 35:

https://www.multihullsolutions.com.a.../10/ed35_1.pdf

Indeed they are low and have a tendency to slam in chop. Note snipet copied from the above link. Thus a bit of a fairweather and protected waters boat, nothing wrong with that just as you plan for the characteristic.

Re: Any Edels in the states

I helped deliver one. The inboards were dead and an outboard on the back was used for power. We never sailed the boat since a chain plate was kaput and the main halyard was used as a jury rig stay to stabilize the mast. Boat seemed to move through the water fairly easily, bunk in the hulls was somewhat narrow, salon was smaller than I would expect on a boat that size.

My takeaway was the boat was designed to be sailed and not well designed for motoring. It seemed to perform fairly well but space was limited for a boat that size.

I have no complaints on mine but is an old design that is rugged and spartan. I guess you can draw parallel to a Jeep CJ7 compared to a Range Rover. Is a fun boat but will never be luxurious nor it tried to be

Re: Any Edels in the states

Lot of good info above. Especially Ron Butler's evaluation.

Sails very well, but waves do slam under the bridge deck going to weather in seas. Keeping light helps. Going forward at sea better than any boat I've seen. We removed the lifelines as they just functioned as bird perches. You never need to get close to the sides.

Separate cabins are great in pleasant weather. Rain makes it less comfortable. Heads are quite large.

We had an outboard; it was steerable connected to the rudders so quite maneuverable.

Re: Any Edels in the states

Thanks for all the info. Still seems right about what I’m looking for. Any advice on an alternative boat manufacture. Again looking less than 100k would prefer a wood less boat from abuild perspective. Performance over luxury but livable for a couple. I was originally looking for a Crowther Spindrift just for comparison. I didn’t like how most of them were home built.

The Maine Cat 30 would be the very best of that type, size, and price.
An older Seawind is harder to find is a good boat.
Beneteau Blue ll for 85K$.
