Re: Contessa 35 - Alternative?

Hi Digital Nomad, I am seriously thinking of selling my Southern Cross 35 Dayspring, long fin with Max Prop in skeg aperture. Complete renovation 2009-2013 New Beta 30 engine, sails (really good ones) furlers (cutter rigged), rigging, plumbing, seacocks, canvas, anchors & chain (300'), new hatch and port lenses, mast painted white, flag blue boot & sheer stripes, etc, etc. Interior: Corian sink & counter, new refrigeration unit, new water heater, custom mattress, new ultraleather upholstery, all refinished wood interior, also new radar and plotter 2017, panels.html" target="_blank">solar-IRJDSUNE9932123321222xxeww-panels and wind gen. comes with custom cradle and Kover Klamp winter cover framing and cover. Looking for 80K but can negotiate. Pics on request via email. Worth a look. Located upstate NY, east end of ontario.html" target="_blank">Lake-IRJDSUNE9932123321222xxeww-Ontario.

This is a difficult decision since we put a heck of a lot of work into this boat, and it is beautiful, comfortable, and sails really well in light and heavy air. In 2016 we took a trip from Lake Ontario via the St. Lawrence seaway to Maine, and we developed total confidence in the vessel in all kinds of conditions. We would love to see her go to someone who will use her as intended - for voyaging.

PM me if interested in looking.

Re: Contessa 35 - Alternative?

While it's not exactly a Contessa, I have an Ohlson 38 that is very much of that era and quality, plus we have sailed it and refitted it so its ready for the water.
Contact me and I can answer any question you might have and explain why we are selling the boat. There is an ad in the CF classifieds and you can look for it on line by searching Ohlson 38 Iroquois

The Doug Peterson Baltic yachts are another great boat produced in the 70’s through to the late 80’s

Actually I don't think they made anything like the number of 35s compared to the better known 32. Having sailed a 32, its not for me, just too cramped.

How about one of these, there is normally a couple on the market at any one time:

Pardon me, if I've misunderstood you Pete.
How is an F10 related to a Contessa?
I'm considering a Contessa 43 and this is about as small as I wish to go.

Any Contessa 43 owners reading this or known, that I can talk to about pros and cons etc etc

Much obliged
Mike

Mike, Force 10 was the wind force Erik decided to go out sailing in his Contessa 35 one winter off Norway and filmed it for You Tube. Quite impressive, barking mad, but none the less quite impressive.

Thanks for clarifying Pete. I more or less knew what you meant but the nomenclature F10 isn't something I've seen before in this context.
Had a long, very tiring day today and the grey matter is on a go slow.
I looked on all his social media channels but couldn't see mention of the boat type.
Yep, the guy's lift doesn't go all the way to the top floor, but you have to respect the guy for doing what he does and doing it solo

Re: Contessa 35 - Alternative?

We bought a Contessa 35 in Penataguishine, Ontario in April 2020...so they do come on the market this side of the pond! Lovely boat to sail and good interior layout.

Re: Contessa 35 - Alternative?

Two other greats come to mind: Nicholson 35 and Contest 33.
