Dickerson ketch 36

"The Way" has been lovingly restored over 12 years with these goals: safety, low maintenance, comfort, and appearance. These are accomplished mainly through simplicity, but also by modifications to reduce future maintenance. This strategy was proven by 3-1/2 years cruising the ICW singlehanded.

- Safety: Oversized ground tackle, all-chain anchor rode, second large anchor, rail-mounted cleats to eliminate chafe, long keel with attached rudder in case of grounding, shallow draft, only 4 through-hulls, the best bronze through-hulls and seacocks, all working sails reefable.

- Low maintenance: plywood decks covered with fiberglass and Awlgripped, extensive use of fillets to eliminate caulking around hatches, minimal electrical system, manual windlass, composting head that can never fail (and no pumpouts) and also eliminates holes in the hull, clean decks for easy washing, no sail battens, excellent work space around engine and stuffing box, excellent ventilation, use of butyl for bedding deck hardware (never needs rebedding).

- Comfort: extra-long berth in main cabin, lots of bookshelves, lots of fresh air and light, cockpit awning, full harbor awning for shade, cockpit seats widened for lounging or sleeping.

- Appearance: Outside: Awlgrip Cloud White and Aristo Blue with varnished teak. Inside: peach and white with varnished teak and mahogany.

General
- Length on deck: 36, beam 11, draft 4. Aft cockpit.
- Bridge clearance 45'. I have gone under bridges with 45' clearance with no problems.
- All required safety equipment (flares, fire extinguishers, etc)
- Coast Guard documented as "The Way", Green Cove Springs, FL, number 540207, 11 tons. Actual displacement 16,000 pounds. (Also registered in Florida.)
- Buyer gets complete documentation of all improvements, equipment, and maintenance since 2009 (200+ pages). Maintenance has been performed to a schedule.

Construction
- Long keel with cutaway forefoot, attached rudder
- Hull: fiberglass, no blisters

Was the deck covered with Fiberglas using epoxy or polyester resin?

West System epoxy. I should add that this deck work and Awlgripping were done by a boatyard, not an amateur :-)

Thanks,
Jack

Re: Dickerson ketch 36

I just noticed that the interior paintwork looks pink in some pix, and yellow in others. Actually it's peach with white accents. The peach goes beautifully with varnished teak.

Jack

Re: Dickerson ketch 36

Correction from OP: actual displacement is 12,000 pounds, not as previously posted.

Jack,
We own a 1976 Dickerson 41' and belong to the Dickerson Owner's Association. If you are serious about selling this Dickerson, then check out the website and post your boat for sale there. She looks beautiful! What year is she? We would like to add her to our list of lost Dickersons.

6' to 6'2" in the main cabin, a little less in the head and forward cabin.

I'm 6'2" and have lived on board comfortably for 10 years.

Thanks for the inquiry!

Thanks, Plover, I'll do that. I was a member for a few years, but it lapsed for some reason.

Hi!

I saved you the trouble by sending you a PM with my email address.

If you don't get it, you can send me one as follows: First you have to be logged in. Then click on my handle "The Way" on one of my messages. Then you will see a tab for "Contact Info", and that has a link for "Send a Private Message".

Thanks for your interest,
Jack
