The Islander Freeport is a dream to sail, she is in her element sailing to windward at 35⁰ off the wind she soars. Sail handling is very easy with this design.
The boat sails dry and with plenty of space both on deck and cockpit she makes a comfortable sail. Being a heavy boat she handles very well in heavy weather, having sailed her in the Americas, Caribbean and Bahamas for several years including Bermuda and Azores, encountering both heavy weather and a hurricane. She then took us across the Atlantic Ocean to our home country England, where we over-hauled her extensively.
We have since toured the south coast of England, France, Spain, Portugal and brought her to the beautiful Algarve where the new owner/s can stay or head off into the sunset.
The “Islander Freeport” was built in California by Robert Perry in 1979. This boat was built to be sailed and cruised in the Pacific Ocean, it now boasts of a worldwide owners club, which membership can be gained using Google. We bought her in the Caribbean where she was owned by an English gentleman.
She has beautiful classic lines and with her new paint job she looks a million dollars.
Within the last Twelve months, we have replaced the six port windows with new classy ones which sets her off nicely. The monitor wind vane is attached to the transom which drops into the water to make easy access to and from the water. The teak rubbing stake, the teak trim and handrails have all been taken off, sealed with glass fiber and re-seated. The entire hull has been re-gel coated, then painted a Navy blue colour and lovely gold vinyl motifs to finish the new look from white. The antifoul has four copper coatings (recommended) and lasts for up to 10yrs without re-painting every year, which is perfect for cruisers on a budget.
The engine was replaced when we bought her with the next model up from the two cylinder to a three cylinder Volvo. The engine was reconditioned in England and has a new gearbox, exhaust system and throttle system eighteen months ago.
The engine is situated low amid ship and sits nicely above the deep bilge which houses a bilge pump and switch and also the manual bilge pump. Behind the engine sits a secondary bilge pump which has a very large pump out capacity for emergencies. The 2 60 gal water tanks are also low amid ship and are on either side of the engine compartment which serves the whole boat through a high capacity water pump and filter which makes the water potable. Each tank can be isolated by a valve.
Through into the low cockpit area there is 2 large bilge blowers which pull out the heat from the engine room, keeping a constant temperature prevents overheating problems. The large diesel fuel tank (80 gal) is also situated under the cockpit area and the smaller back-up fuel tank (18 gal) is situated under the steps down from the cockpit.
Moving forward into the lower state room is situated the new water filter to feed the engine with raw water and separates off to cater the heads with raw water and also there is a separate galley tap to supply raw water for washing up on long hauls if required.
Under the lower port is the compressor for the refrigeration and amid ship houses the holding tank and new Macerator pump.
Up in the forward unlike other yachts is the very spacious heads and wet room. Amid ship is the queen bedroom situated off to the port side and has louver doors for privacy when guests are on board. This is known as the Pullman berth.
To starboard is spacious lockers and drawers. Coming forward is the seating area where six people can sit comfortably around the extending dining table. The dining table will drop down to make a double birth and the starboard side can be used as a birth also.
Then into the galley with the new Plastimo stove (2016) and extra-large refrigeration storage.
The cockpit has a sprayhood and tent, which makes a perfect seating area that shelters from the rain, wind and sun in hot climates.
The hard dinghy and outboard motor are easily secured to the boat. We are including these items and many others with the sale of the boat that are too numerous to mention.
The reason we are selling is that we are immigrating to Australia to be with our Grandchildren.
We take this opportunity to mention that “Meridian” is a 36’ Islander Freeport built in 1979 in California. All items listed are as used or spares and are not brand new. Every effort has been taken to list and offer “Meridian” at a fair current market value.

Re: ISLANDER FREEPORT 36

Lovely boat, I have seen her or a similar in Sweden some years ago, an UK gentleman took her around the world. He was very satisfied with his boat - almost lyric...
I have a 42 feet sailing boat I have to sell before next projekt! But your Islander could fit my future fairly well.....

Good Luck
