Re: Looking For a Free Catamaran to call home

I know most sailors here are older like me but I mentioned this thread to my kids. They said “Dad, he’s a trollll”. Guess that’s an internet thing.

Here is the definition of a troll.

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

If one is too lazy to work toward one’s dream then said one is too lazy to maintain one’s dream. Failure after failure will bring you closer... Keep trying.
I hope time is on your side...

My wife and I have a dream of getting a catamaran and living aboard it sailing place to place. Picking up people and helping them learn to sail. Spreading the love and joy of the ocean to others who cant afford a boat(like us at the moment)

I am hoping to find someone in a giving mood that wants to give their catamaran away to a good home. My wife and I are wanting to move onto a Catamaran and sail around. We currently don't have the money to purchase a boat but who knows maybe by pure chance, luck, or Gods grace we will get offered an amazing opportunity!

Were willing to travel to get to the boat and so far our favorite boats have been Knysnas and Privileges 40-50 foot range. But beggars cant be chooser
Strange post, you say you are willing to travel to look at a free cat, that's awfully considerate of you.
And yes beggars shouldn't be choosers .

Re: Looking For a Free Catamaran to call home

There is always someone desiring to get something for nothing, well, a true fact of life.

thar aint no free lunch.

Pretty obvious that the OP is on the ropes and needs a change of life....well, that change when you want to get a free 40 to 50 cat, and pretty much know zip about owning a boat or even if purchasing an old , used boat.....you best have a good supply of cash.....since that move is going to be very costly. Not to mention lots of time donated by you, and being unskilled , one huge problem.

I did not hear anything about the OP having a love for sailing, or the ocean, or any experience or knowledge of sailing or boat owner ship.

And, some one mentioned, this idea could lead to the end of a relationship.

If the OP was interested in sailing, and eventually purchasing a well found vessel, but cannot afford that right now.....a good plan is OPB..... join a sailing club, take lessons, get checked out on their boats, do some coastal sailing, and even bare boat charter world wide. No huge outlay, but you would learn what most here are trying to gently explain .

What is OPB ?

OPB...." other peoples boats " : let them handle the purchase, the insurance, the maintenance , the slip fees, the taxes, and all of the other costs associated with boating, sailing and ownership.

Actually, gain some knowledge and seamanship, and sailing many different boats, and thus help you to make an informed decision.

Also, there are actually boat owners out there who have sailing or motor vessels that
do not have operable engines, or tansmissions, or are slip queens that never leave the slip, They have found a marina, a junk boat, and have their waterfront home with slip fees that they might be able to afford. They hang at the waterfront rum shops ( bars) , etc.

This post has been most entertaining, thank you all .

You happen to be standing on the dock. He chooses wisely and tosses you the keys!

We were nearly in thay position, motor boat lost one engine could only manage 8knots and the steering was heavy, dispite being told several it was a blocked filter to one engine they ended up launching a life boat to go get him and his family.

From what we could hear on the radio and from the people near the life boat station that boat was likley to be VERY cheap that afternoon!

I would also love a Free big Catamaran to replace my 25ft Summer Twins - not so Brand conscious even a Big Trimaran.
Not that the Twins needs replacing.
Most people with CATs that don’t work - still want a fortune for them Generally cost more than a mono

Re: Looking For a Free Catamaran to call home

If you can't afford to pay for the boat you can't afford to maintain or store it. That is not a mean comment just a simple truth.

And if the boat is free it WILL need costly work because the last person who owned it realized they could not afford to store it and maintain it either.
