Re: Lotsa Project Deals in FL from IAN

Boats are AMAZING things... They can break the heart of the owner when they are destroyed in a storm, and then go on to break the hearts and wallets of two or three more people over the next ten years.

Not 2 days after the folks who owned them died, lost everything or are living in shelters.

Re: Lotsa Project Deals in FL from IAN

I started a similar thread and was quickly tarred and feathered by a few 5-star members that were offended that I might be interested in purchasing a project boat. It’s good to see that there are people interested in actually helping solve some problems instead of provoking meaningless fights. Thanks for anyone and everyone who has positive information to share!

Re: Lotsa Project Deals in FL from IAN

It's a touchy subject, so how it gets approached makes a big difference in how people will react.

Saying something like "Looks like that hurricane trashed a bunch of boats, how can I get my hands on one cheap?" is going to get reactions like "Shut up and stop being an insensitive prick"

But a question like "That hurricane did some horrible damage. What happens to the boats that don't get repaired and all of the parts from them?" is likely to get a much better response.

The first question gives the impression of "I want to swoop in and take advantage of a bad situation", the second is a much more gentle, informational request.

Boat US usually holds telephone auctions of their totaled boats.

Being opportunistic or talking about being opportunistic in the wake of a disaster is not against the rules.

Likewise pointing out the social insensitivity of those being opportunistic is not against the rules until it gets to the point of name calling.

Given that Florida is just starting to dig out and the storm is still turning and causing damage further north in SC, NC and soon VA the social insensitivity is especially acute.

A better analogy would be asking people at the scene of an accident if any parts are for sale

Many people consider Lawyers ambulance chasers and vultures. I am not a Lawyer.

So attorneys who are skilled in Admirality are vultures and ambulance chasers.
Good grief is this kindergarten?

Although the thread is closed, this is good time to restate part of the community rules.
  • Personal attacks on others will NOT be tolerated. Challenge others' points of view and opinions, but do so respectfully and thoughtfully.
  • Our rules extend to all sections of the website including private messaging.
If you believe you are the subject of an ad hominem attack, please do NOT respond to it publicly how ever much you want to. Doing so simply becomes another ad hominem attack and double the moderators workload - and we don’t like that. It is also a sure fire way of getting the discussion closed down.

Instead, use the report function to advise the moderators of your concerns. We will assess your concern collectively and take action as we see fit. Most times there is moderator on line and if the matter is egregious, a temporary solution will be put in place until a collective resolution is determined.

Please note, the report function for a PM is situated at the top RHS of the PM while the report icon for a general post is situated at the bottom LHS of every post.

Your assistance in keeping CF a friendly place to visit is appreciated.
