Nimble 20 Vagabond 1993 Trawler

Selling my Nimble 20 Vagabond I owned since 2009,a design by T Brewer, these hulls came on styles, trawler and sailboat.
Usually those looking for these boats do not need much description as they know what they want and are knowledgeable about them, with a very active owners association providing support and help.
I bought it as a trawler for health reasons and a way to be boating, during those years could not help myself and slowly converted her to a "motorsailer",first adding a small stabilizer boom and sail, eventually rigged her as sloop with both sails on CDI roller/furlings.
All modifications including a mast tabernacle accomplished without new holes,in fact kept in mind if a new owner wanted to revert to trawling every thing can be removed except the mast step I used 5200 and will require some chiseling?
Here some photos, will add more later, been under pressure to get it going but can tell my reluctance.
Price is 14.000,located in Morehead City NC
Does have a trailer
Still in the water but will have to remove and locate a storage place.

Re: Nimble 20 Vagabond 1993 Trawler

sent this mail to an inquiry and thought may be of interest

"Boat is on my home on its trailer, have to remove it from slip as the homeowners association allows one boat slip for homeowner.
I recently purchased a Cape Dory 30 and needed the slip to finish outfitting.
The Nimble has a 50 HP outboard Honda purchased new by prior owner on 08/26/2008 as per invoice.
I purchased the boat in 2009.
Launched in 2010
Hours on tachometer need to double check.
Boat was on my driveway most of 2009 as I replaced all inside panels,re sealed windows, removed RV type of air condition on deck and replace opening with a new hatch
Since then installed
GPS, DepthFinder,VHF radio mounted Teleflex Hydraulic steering,Autopilot RayMarine EVO 100 ,Mast on tabernacle,Main and Jib from Sailrite in 2013,both on CDI roller furling.
It comes with several outboard gas tanks and there is a gas/water separator filter.
As mentioned all the sailing gear is installed in such a way can be removed and returns to be the original trawler version as was careful not to drill any thru deck fittings.
There is only a thru hull below water line as I replaced portapotti with a marine self contained toilet Sealand West Marine #711-M28 Marine Sanitation System, with a 3 ways valve for discharge overboard, pumpout facility.
Uses a selfcontained tank and fresh water flushing so no odors.
Replaced steering wheel original with a Vetus mahogany?.
Modified access to electric panel to accommodate more breakers.
If I remember more stuff will list.
This is not a project boat in as much as I used it until February when family situation events.
To pull it out of the slip just turned the key, motored to ramp and is ready to be used any time.
There are couple of water leaks from two hatches on deck need attention but is so minimal I just continued boating.
If not sold within couple of weeks, will have it bubble wrapped to protect it from the elements,my full attention is now outfitting my new to me Cape Dory and leave by end of August the latest.
On return this winter will see,I am 77 and not sure about how long I can, might be able to push it,if worse comes to be,may have to go to plan B, sale the Cape Dory, move the Nimble close to my daughter and continue fiddling with and just enjoy what I can.
I will be happy to answer any question
David

Re: Nimble 20 Vagabond 1993 Trawler

Hey David,

I am considering buying a Vagabond and doing the whole motor sailing modification too. I currently own a Nimble 20 (sailboat) but need the additional room for my wife.

I’m located nearby on the Caoe Fear and would like to see it for ideas if it is still in the area.

Let me know and thanks.

Re: Nimble 20 Vagabond 1993 Trawler

Thanks David,

As I mentioned I like the concept (eg Nimble 20 w/ more space).

Will keep looking.
Thanks again

Re: Nimble 20 Vagabond 1993 Trawler

Hello Again Dave,

I’m still looking for the Vagabond to convert to a motor-sailor and would like to talk to you about challenges you encountered. Anyway we can exchange phone numbers? I’m relatively new to this forum and not sure how to do that.

Thanks
Bob W

Re: Nimble 20 Vagabond 1993 Trawler

Sorry for the delay
getting ready to leave and been working long hours on the boat, will get back as soon as I can
basically the more difficult part is building a proper and secure tabernacle to raise and support the mast, that been the only work that needs careful consideration, otherwise for the standing rigging chain plates bolted to the outside of the hull much like Nor'Sea 27 for instance will do the job,
I did bolted a traveller on deck just forward of the hatch.noe necessary but helpful.for the jib I used a club foot tied on deck to a loose traveler for self tacking

Re: Nimble 20 Vagabond 1993 Trawler

David -
Is your Nimble Vagabond still for sale? My name is Ken Carpenter, #321 505-9206. It sounds like the perfect boat for me. I like sailing and gunkholing. I'm 80 yo myself, but have big ideas, (as long as they last). I don't have much hope for your vessel still being available, but I thought I would try. Anyway, I wish you the best and admire your sailing tenacity.
