Do i miss the Big Plattforms?

Yachtall
Yachtworld
Boatshop
Boat24
Scanboat
Botentekoop
Bestboats

... Dont Find what i am looking for
Many are listed at yacht clubs, direct from owners, local marinas and yard brokers. For example. https://torresen.com/boat-sales/brokerage-department/

I often recommend driving the Great Lakes shoreline for available boats. Fresh water only, short seasons, like new. It would be a long drive for you.

no anchor in the world will hold that thing in 120kn wind ..lol

Totally puzzled by your response. This boat seems to have everything you are looking for: Ketch, steel hull, 18 m, proven history, updated systems, enclosed pilot house, custom built for severe weather, etc., etc. Note upgrade cost of >$1M. Twin anchors through the bow on 5/8" chain look pretty capable to me and if the older design bothers you replace them with something more high tech. Your design criteria of being able to handle ice by definition means a heavy steel hull. Your requirements of a fully enclosed pilot house and extreme weather capability means big hull, wide beam, high rails, all of which creates more force on the anchors in high winds. Looking for a vessel that will withstand 120kt hurricane winds and be "hurricane proof" is chasing a chimera. Finding a vessel that is built strong, well designed and well equipped to take you to extreme locations is entirely possible and this vessel "Mitchif" fits that description. Dismissing it so haughtily makes me wonder if your boat search is real or merely a thought exercise.

You Are right... The Inside leather... Tech... Wood Are very Nice. Deck and House seem to be in very good shape.

But she is not what i call Hurricane proof.

Far to high housing for breaking waves from the side.

Far to large Windows.

High Center of gravity.

What i am searching is some Thing like this:

https://www.yachtfocus.com/gebruikte...-23-meter.html

But Smaller... Cheaper... And With the small pilothouse closed.

Or this

https://m.boat24.com/en/sailboats/br...detail/405638/

Or this

Yes, I can see how these boats would better fit your criteria. Nice looking boats. I hope you find the perfect one that meets your vision. Keep searching and post what you end up buying.

well ... basically there are good boats like this.. but very rarely.. and that makes it time consuming...and thats why I came to wonder that there are in total only some 30.000 boats (incl. all small boats) are listet at the trade platforms.
There doesn't need to be a lot of boats because most of them are being recycled over and over as newbies and dreamers buy them for unrealistic voyages, learn it's tougher than they thought, sell them back into the market just in time for another fool.

Re: Only 30.000 boats for sale worldwide? Wrong Websites?

To the original post on overall market size, this is definitely dated but was what popped up in 2 minutes of Google searching (http://www.boatsgroup.com/wp-content...ex-Report1.pdf), south of 6000 boats sold worldwide in a quarter. The number's probably higher in 2019 and not all boats show up in this report, but order of magnitude the numbers are on target, the worldwide boat market is just very small. If you're buying a boat and spending time at marinas, and you live in a place like Annapolis like I do, it's easy to forget that a huge part of the world is simply landlocked, much of the rest isn't suitable for basing a boat, and the vast majority of the world isn't well enough off to own one. So like the alcoholic who thinks drinking is far more prevalent than it is because they spend most of their time around other drinkers, it's easy to think boats are far more ubiquitous than they are if you're addicted to them

don't know if this ad is stale.
Here's my contribution to your dream:

‘Jerrican’, a Dix 43’ just missing a mast and a couple of feet, but the source might be a good one to add to your list.

Re: Only 30.000 boats for sale worldwide? Wrong Websites?

One of the reasons you see such large boats at such a tempting price... well ... politely... it is how desperate sellers have to be to unload their large maxis. Most of these boats would cost north of 3 million dollars if you had to buy new.

So, I’ve read what you are saying. Do you really have the money to support one of these large complex platforms? If you are rich ...you will be slit less rich after she is done with you. Honestly, do you have any idea what this boats upkeep and replacement of things will cost? It is staggering

My boat is in San Carlos Mexico. I met a nice guy in June who was trying to unload his Maxi aluminum. Drop dead gorgeous. Everything in tip top shape. Wanted about 250k. If I was a dreamer for world cruising I would jump at the chance. Never seen a better deal. Anywhere ...that is how it is for big boats.

Small market. Tough market. It could take years to unload. What if you blow a mainsai. Do yourself s favor and just call a few sail makers what it cost for a heavy cruising sail for such a large boat. Sit down before reading.

I honestly wish you luck. If you have the money... it is one thing... if you have the dream but not the deep pockets... it will be your financial disaster.

Re: Only 30.000 boats for sale worldwide? Wrong Websites?

I call someone "rich" who is able and willing to buy a Rembrandt or Richter for 500.000 If likes to.

Averybody Else will need to keep an eye on his Funds '-)

... Despite That...our family ran boats up to 46ft since i Was a little kid. I am aware of how to waste money on boats and how to make this Hobby less catastrophic.

By far the Most expensive Part still is depreciation... So... Buy a good Deal cheap... Its the same With Most Material Things...
It is followed by luxury Marinas which you never need.

The linked boat is very Nice!
But again... Not in Europe which want to search first.

The quarterly report is very interestung!
There Are only 150 boats this size Sold in europe and it takes on Average more than a year??... I Am surprised!

If there are 6000 boats Sold a Quarter and 25000 Are Listed than turnover is still faster than i thought!

By the way... I Am Not Planing... At least... To sell and by many boats.
Buy one... Keep long...

No, on an older boat, especially a bigger one, the maintenance cost is huge.
Depreciation flattens out, and anyhow there is no cost to that unless you sell it.

But maintenance, that is another thing, it is constant and it is large. These are ships, not boats. Everything costs more, sails, engine repairs, moorage, haulouts, bottom paint, propellers, but the big complex equipment is a constant drain, and one which can't usually be put off.

But if you do want to imagine it, look closely at the photos of this 60' steel yacht, the interior ones, the engine room ones, then imagine you are in charge of keeping it all in good nick. To me it's daunting, and bound to be expensive.

60′ de Haas Shipyard Motorsailer 1968/94 – $295,000

As far as your plan to buy one boat and keep it long...plans change when faced with reality which turns out to be different than the image we held prior.

mine is too, but
1. the frenchies have improved a hell of a lot with their english in the last 40 years
2. you need a vocabulary of abt.30 words & no grammar to get along

bought our Elan in Bretagne last year, previous owners & broker all spoke excellent English, we spoke hardly a french word with them.
