Prout Snowgoose 35 Fully refurbished

For sale can be viewed in Cartagena Spain

1977 Snowgoose 35, in excellent condition with over £20000 spent on refits in the last 3 years

35 foot catamaran from Prout with Yanmar 3GM30 inboard diesel and Silette drive leg. The engine is in excellent running order with regular servicing, low hours and a full top end rebuild in 2014 with new manifold and exhaust elbow. Drive leg was fully serviced and rebuilt in 2016. New prop 2016

Internally she has been fully rewired and re-plumbed with new parts to a very high standard. All electrics are new and over spec wiring has been used on everything. There are fuses for everything. LED bulbs in all lights including the anchor light and sailing red and greens. Low amp Cafremo fans fitted in saloon and main cabin, TV/DVD player, two inverters, 800w and 3500w (both with high amp cables and safety fuses). There are 400w of solar panels feeding a top of the range Prostar Solar PWM charger and 6 Trojan batteries, all under 2 years old. Total domestic capacity is 675w. There is an electric Windlass with a separate sealed 120Ah battery (for safety no heavy duty cables run he length of the boat). The solar panels provide more than enough power year round and we never need to run the engine to charge. When the engine running however, the Sterling Alternator to Battery charger unit puts maximum amps in to the batteries at all times. A ProDigital 40A charger tops up quickly when on shore power.
There is a super insulated 12v fridge and cooking extractor fan too. There are various hard wired USB and “lighter” sockets for charging phones, IPads etc

Two 150L water tanks (refurbished with new potable safe epoxy lining in 2013) give 300L of pressurised water - filtered first through charcoal and then for drinking separately through a Seagull filter. There is a shower in the heads with a new teak grate and a deck shower by the swim platform. A 20l water heater provides plenty of pressurised hot water on board. Water can be heated with diesel or electric

There is also full wet central heating using a diesel Webasto ThermoTop 5Kw heater. This feeds two light weight radiators and towel rail and is fully programmable for time on and off etc. Provides full heating for even the coldest winters and unlike blown air heating it is quiet and uses very low amps to run the water pump.

The galley has a twin gas hob and a good size gas oven as well as a stainless basin and plenty of storage cupboards and a gas detector. (Gas hoses were changed in 2015 and all fittings inspected)

Twin sofas in cream leather look along with a new teak table in the saloon make an inviting environment to sit, with large windows all around and new head linings in 2016. The walls are panelled in cherry faced marine plywood.

Forward there is a private double cabin with great views and a separate dressing room attached with hanging rails and built in wardrobe.

Aft there are two single cabins with new head linings and reading lights. Under the rear bunks are huge storage lockers

All windows and hatches are either new or refurbished and there are no leaks. Blinds are fitted to all windows.

The large cockpit has a new teak grate and custom made seating in Sunbrella fabric. There is a Vetus captains chair and a full custom cockpit cover providing shade or weather protection. A 1 year old boom tent in sunbrella is also included.

Tac-tic wind, depth and log instruments are fitted and all work perfectly, with a new wind anemometer fitted in 2013 and the depth and log in 2014. There is a Simrad NSS9 touch screen chart plotter / radar screen with Simrad 3G radar (all 2014). A Navicom VHF radio with AIS receiver is fitted.

All white sails are Jeckells and were new in 2013 (a second spare Genoa is 7 years old and still in good condition) and the spinnaker is 2014 Crusader.

All running rigging is under 3 years old and is changed end for end yearly and the standing rigging is oversized for absolute safety and peace of mind.

There is the usual mix of safety equipment, 3 electric bilge pumps and one manual (never used as the bilges are always bone dry), Horseshoe buoy, 4 life jackets (all in service date) etc. 4 extinguishers are on board and all in date. Also coastal flare kit in date.

A custom stainless bow roller and 25Kg Rocna anchor on 60m chain are up front, with two bridles; one for normal use and a second extra length for storm use. A 900w windlass makes easy work of anchoring and there is a Fortress as a kedge or stern anchor. A genuine 15Kg Bruce is the spare bower anchor.

Steering is hydraulic with new rams fitted in 2016 (rebuilt old Vetus rams on board as spares). There is a hydraulic Global 770 (Cetrek 770) autopilot which whilst older is in full working order.

The bottom was copper coated in 2015 and new rudder bushes fitted.

She sails very well, averaging 6 knots (will also do 6 knots under engine) but at times making 9 without currents to help. She will sail from about 45 degrees in to wind but really picks up at 60 degrees. Downwind is a dream, comfortable and stable. All controls lead to the cockpit with a reliable roller furling genoa and an Easy Reef behind the mast rolling main. There is also a Yankee stay sail (also roller furling though the drum has been repaired but works perfectly). A storm sail is also included and whilst over 10 years old is unused so in new condition.

This is an excellent safe boat for cruising and has been around the world. Ideal for those wanting to cruise long term as everything has been fine tuned to do exactly that over the last three years. There are great deck spaces to sunbathe or find shade, a solid front deck for added safety when working up front, great visibility and comfort, a reliable solid engine and reasonable performance under sail with total safety (no Snowgoose has ever sunk or over turned and with 4 sealed floatation chambers she cannot sink even if filled with water. With solid hull and deck (not cored like later models) there is no chance of rot, there is no sign of osmosis nor has any Snowgoose 35 ever had any, and yet she only weighs 3500Kg making her nimble compared to most. At 0.9m draft she will navigate almost anywhere and at 4.6m wide all the French canals are open to you.

She is only for sale because after 3 years of cruising we found two tiny kittens in Spain who adopted us and we tried sailing with them for 2 months and they hated it. So we’re moving ashore and looking for a smaller weekend boat for local trips.

Asking price is £39950 GB Pounds

Looks very clean. Nice job with the interior.
Does yours have the extra weight in the forward hulls? ( 250 lb / side)
Former SG35 owner..

Re: Prout Snowgoose 35 Fully refurbished

Thanks, I'd not heard of extra weight in the hulls - in fact we've tried our best to keep weight down and aft of course as too much weight up front on these rather slows them down.

Re: Prout Snowgoose 35 Fully refurbished

Hi I need information on repairing my Rudder on my Prout 35 Snowgoose. I see you have had your rudders off in your old add.. I’m looking for any ideas on the possibilities of welding or sleeving the upper rudder post., or grinding . Thank you,

Re: Prout Snowgoose 35 Fully refurbished

Capt Dave, while it has been a long time, I remember mine were plain steel and rusted, I separated the top of the rudders and puller them apart. I welded new lower pieces in, removed the random pieces of foam and them epoxied them back together. I am almost sure the post was just plain steel and you could certainly sleeve them. Sorry, pictures have been lost.
