Tayana 48 Year 2000

My wife and I have decided to put our NOMAD for sale by owner as we cruise her. Due to some unexpected medical issues, we believe it is time to begin the search for the new owners. We will continue to cruise her as long as it takes and are still having fun, but as the story goes, plans change.

Currently in the Bahamas (all around!). Will return to Florida in May.
Selling price $310,000.

Every boat has a story (or a few) to tell. NOMAD is no exception. We bought her in 2013 and did a major refit. We have cruised her full time since then. Here is a run down of some of NOMAD's attributes...

Robert Perry Design, 48' long, 14.5' beam, 35k lbs, 6' draft, 63' air draft, Yanmar engine88 hp 3750 hrs, Fischer Panda mini 8 (year 2009 - fresh water cooled gen, 1100 hrs) generator, water 235, fuel 120, holding 30

Tayana builds semi custom...This layout -- fwd V berth and head with separate shower stall, salon setees both sides with sea berth on port, galley, aft state room with walk around queen and ensuite head.

So here are some of the specifics to NOMAD's equipment list:
Refit in 2013
NEW Selden internal car mast/boom/rig with full batten main built to 62.5' AWL
NEW wiring and lights for all mast navigation -- LED anchor/tri light/steaming
NEW Keel cooled Frigoboat 12v refer and freezer added (Grunert 115v remains as alternate)
NEW Custom SS arch/davit system by Mack Sails
NEW Passive charging combo Kyocera solar and MK450 Wind Generator
NEW Emarine panel with Blue Sky charge controller
NEW Class B AIS
NEW LED bulbs through out
NEW SS lifelines -- 1/4" uncoated
NEW Icom M412 added at helm
NEW ACR Globalfix EPIRB
NEW Acrylic companionway doors
NEW windshield and screens
NEW smoke and CO detectors
NEW fresh water pump variable speed, 5gpm
NEW Raritan Head (aft)

Other equipment:
SK Watermaker - 25 GPH (new membranes 2013, tubes 2014)
Batteries - 800 AH house, GRP 31 Eng start, GRP 31 Gen start
Three separate A/C unit Marine Air (28,000 BTU)
Grunert 115v holding plate refrigeration (also 12v Frigoboat as primary)
Standard Horizon VHF at Nav station
Raymarine electronics C120W chart plotter, etc.
Magnum 2500 charger/inverter (new 2015)
Sea Recovery (UV) Water filtration system
Vetus Bow thruster
Lewmar electric winch (at cabin top)
Max Prop with PYI drip less shaft seal
Fuel polishing system
Two (2) Racor filters - eng, gen all with heat shields
Asymmetrical Spinnaker - new 2014
Winslow 6 man life raft (certified Sept. 2015)
Spade 77 lb anchor - primary
AB 10vl dinghy with Yamaha 15hp 4 stroke

This is a taste of NOMAD. We would be happy to discuss her with anyone any time. We believe her to be the best equipped and maintained Tayana 48 currently on the market. Of course that is subject to owners' opinion. -Ha!

Best to you

Just a note to the lookers out there, we would be willing to work with someone who has a smaller boat looking to move up to a "full time" kind of boat.

Re: Tayana 48 Year 2000

Nomad is on the loose! We had a great sail form Georgetown to Black Point. We did 55 miles in 7.25 hours averaging 7.6 anchor to anchor with a max speed recorded at 9. This was an ideal sail in 18kts at 120 degrees, number 1 reef and yankee genoa. Mostly traveling at 8.25 knts (hull speed is 8.5).

Tomorrow we are moving to Rock Sound, Eluethra. We'll let you know what happens...

On Yachtworld, listings of T48s in the states:

Year Price
2006 $365,000
2005 $339,999
2000 $336,000
1995 $245,900
1999 $330,999
1997 $344,900
2006 $425,000
2001 $275,000

Average price $332,849

Looks like we have Nomad priced right, and her equipment list and condition are excellent. She is ready for the next new owner before I pickle the water maker...Let's talk.

Regards to all

A funny thing happened on the way to the states

We are back in the states after a nice ride from Nassau (225 miles). We came in the St Lucie River inlet at 1/2 and falling with no problem. Currently in Stuart for now.

On the way back in the Tongue of the Ocean (about 30 miles out of Nassau), we had a funny experience...At lunch time the Admiral went down to prep the meal and was coming up the companion way with 2 plates of food when...WHAM, WHAM a double hook up of tuna. How cool is that?

Unfortunately, she had just taken her insulin shot (the fast acting kind) and had to eat...or else... I was going to have more to deal with than the ocean and 2 tuna.

I was not able to land either of these, ugh. Oh well. That is part of dealing with our new normal.

Then, just off of Palm Beach there is a fish reef in about 100 ft of water. I was on a course to pass through mid day. There was a tremendous boat density when I got there, but I thought "What the heck? I remembered the line from Captain Ron, "Don't worry boss they'll get out of the way"

Roger that. Or not.

There I was in the middle of things when WHAM port side rod bent over big. All eyes were on NOMAD. We landed and released a huge Bonito. Enough fishing for this trip. Rods stowed, time to get on with sailing...

NOMAD is ready to show to interested parties. Contact me for more information.

Regards
D

Re: Tayana 48 Year 2000

Hello all.

Here are a couple of pictures of NOMAD on the way back to the states taken by Spill the Wine.

In the last six months two T48s have sold (Songlines and Montana Sky) and now one is under contract (Argonaut). Of (approximately) 130 T48s that have been built, there are not many on the market to choose from. It is one of the most popular boats of this class out there.

We want NOMAD to be next. We are 45 minutes from the Ft. Lauderdale Airport. Let me know how I can help with arrangements for you to see NOMAD.

Enjoy the pics...we were sailing at 7 knots in 12 knot of air, very deep down wind.

Re: Tayana 48 Year 2000

Can you post additional pictures of the layout - specifically the forward cabin and head? Would be good to see the starboard settee as well if possible. Also does the aft cabin have a mirror/vanity across the bed or a locker with drawers?

Re: Tayana 48 Year 2000

Fjoyes...Thanks for the kind words. Yes NOMAD is a dream machine. She is! You never know, your piggy bank might be big enough, well maybe, or then again...She is the boat we built to be our "dream" after cruising for about 7 years full time aboard an Island Packet 40 (Faith).

We tried to go back to land in 2012. It didn't stick too well. So when we started looking for THE boat our list was THE list. After we bought this T48, we made it THE boat (understandably -- OUR perfect boat). After almost 4 years aboard NOMAD full time, we wouldn't change a thing.

For example...The prior owner installed a 25 gpH water maker (runs off of 115V gennset). That was his cost. If I was choosing, I wouldn't have upped for that deep of unit (very expensive). What I understand now, is that unit allows us to make water for an hour every other day, not a couple of hours a day like smaller units.

Since we upped for passive charging, we might only have to run the genset for our Magnum 2500 charging once every TWO WEEKS. That was our cost. Yes, our passive charging (virtually) runs the boat, allowing us to use the genset to make water and make it hot (I like hot showers...with fresh water...not to mention my better half) as the primary purpose for it.

It is also nice to have that passive energy cushion underway (with 800 ah house bank ) so we can focus on sailing not, "When we will charge the next time?". Being underway (electronics and all) uses considerably more energy than being at anchor...

These are just our thoughts based on our experience. Everybody has their own list of must haves and I appreciate that...

Nariel...Thanks for the inquiry. I am attaching some more pics of the forward stateroom -- V berth and starboard setee. I hope these are sufficient. Again, as I mentioned before, every T48 is different -- semi custom and everybody has different needs. I can't remember what "A,B, or C" group our cabins are, but am happy to send loads of photos to help you get a clue of our layout.

It is important to understand that although the Tayana 48 is what I would call a large moderate displacement boat (design criteria for Bob Perry was to maximize interior volume of 48 ft platform), every layout change impacts the available space. NOMAD is laid out as forward V berth (we call it the garage), with midship to port head. O.K. this works for what we need. Having a midship, port head and aft starboard head allows the use of either side while underway and heeled (something that might not seem important until you've tried not having the option -- WHOA). I cannot imagine trying to use the forward fo'c'sle head under way...no way. (Images in my mind of hilarity).

Other layouts have their advantages...it all depends on what you want or need...

So I am attaching a couple of pics of V berth, Forward head with shower stall, and starboard salon setee.

I hope this gives a better clue to the layout on NOMAD. You kind of have to step aboard each T48 to understand the positives and negative (they each have both). The aft stateroom has a mirror with "locker and drawers", also a picture added. We think this also a much more usable feature, as well as the full access queen berth. I know the layout that has lockers each side looks like it gives more storage space, but imagine waking up, and turning out of bed with that sharp corner right in the way (ow, ow, ow). There is already plenty of storage through out the boat, IMHO those "cabinets" are just another boat bruise waiting to happen (IMHO).

Thanks for the inquiry. I hope to be able to answer more questions as they arise.

Re: Tayana 48 Year 2000

Life being what it is sometimes leads to...

I am in San Antonio now and will return to Stuart very soon. My wife and I made a dash for "home" a couple of weeks ago due to my mom's accelerating poor health. What we thought was a trip back to help my mom into her next phase of life turned into her passing as we were on the road back.

So as happens, life takes another turn. Life is always in transition. Along those lines I believe our transition back to land has accelerated a bit.

I am looking forward to meeting the next owners of NOMAD. I would like to hand her off to someone capable or ready to be capable.

NOMAD is ready and we are ready.

If you are "on the fence" it is time to talk. You might be surprised how easy it would be to own a dream machine.

Peace, Love, NOMAD

Re: Tayana 48 Year 2000

We just got our copy of magazine Cruising Outpost (summer 2017) and the Admiral had another article published. Funny thoughts about Provisioning, Page 96.

We had hoped to sell Nomad through private sale. It looks like we will have to enlist the services of a broker...more on that later. We may have to go swimming with the sharks.

Best to all

Price reduction!

We have reduced the price of Nomad to $295,000.

Additionally we have listed her with Kent Little of Little Yacht Sales. She should show up on Yacht World soon enough.

If a potential buyer would feel more comfortable dealing with a broker instead of an owner, you now have that option.

You can still deal directly with the owner (me) by contact on this website via PM, but you have to contact me FIRST, not Kent Little.

We are still in Stuart, Florida.

Another look....

Hello all:

As best I know there are no mechanical projects to deal with on Nomad. I have just changed the engine oil, the genset oil is mid life, all systems are working...as the saying goes, "when everything is working, it is time to sell"...For whatever sayings are worth...there you go.

I just finished several coats of varnish on the exterior woodwork. It looks great!.

"The best time to buy a boat is when the owner wants to sell."

Nomad is ready. Watch "Captain Ron" just one more time, and you will get it.

Be well, the other options might not go so well,

D
