Lochmarin is a 55ft aft cockpit pilot house aluminium ketch, with a centre board (draft 6ft with contemplate up, 12 ft with it down), launched in 1990 by Whisstocks Ltd in Woodbridge England. She was built to Loyd's 100 A1 plus class standard and is strong, fast, comfortable, easy to handle by minimum crew and designed to be the perfect blue water cruiser. A proven blue water cruising yacht, she is beautifully balanced under sail and with every little detail thought out below and above deck for when under passage or on anchor.

She has been perfect for us sailing as a couple, with occasional visits from family and friends, but would also be a spacious base for family cruising. We have spent the last 5 1/2 years exploring the world in her - read about our travels in blog.mailasail.com/lochmarin

Being a ketch she has many sail options: jib, staysail, main, mizzen staysail and mizzen sail allows one to create a large sail area using combinations of smaller sails instead of having two big difficult to handle sails on a sloop. This means that the two of us have handled her happily - indeed, when Phil was ill between Raja Ampat and Lombok, Sara did all the sail handling alone for over 1000 miles. Lochmarin is spacious but she is well set up for easy handling by minimum crew.

When we first took over Lochmarin in 2007 she needed plenty of care and attention and she underwent a major refit. We followed this by replacing the engine and generator and updating all her systems in 2011 before heading off to live on her full time. Over 5 1/2 years of exploring the world we have invested hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars on continuous improvements and on getting her set up to meet all the needs of off-grid living. The sun and wind, complemented by her Northern Lights generator, provides all the power needed for her systems. The 150 Litres per hour water maker and large capacity tanks means fresh water is never an issue. The completely rebuilt fridge and freezer, washing machine and brand new galley stove mean that the luxuries of life can be enjoyed whilst on anchor or passage.

With the SSB and Pactor modem you can keep in touch, with weather reports always available and emails easily sent and received you never have to feel isolated however far away family and friends are, as well as updating your blog as you go.

Lochmarin is currently on the hard in Pangkor, in the wonderful cruising ground of Malaysia. She can stay there as long as you like without any import taxes or duties, as she’s a foreign flagged vessel. One great thing about Malaysia is that, as there’s no cyclones, you can sail all year round going West first the back East with the change of monsoon. Indonesia, Borneo and Thailand are all within easy reach and there are Sail Malaysia rallies if you want to cruise in company. When you tire of Asia there’s Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands to move onto or the wealth of the Indian Ocean.

If you are looking for a boat that has been strongly built, designed by sailors for sailing, not just for sitting in marinas or on moorings, that is spacious, well equipped and tried and tested then you have found the right boat for you.

Accommodation:
Lochmarin has two forward guest cabins (double and twin bunks respectively) with shared shower and separate heads and a stern owner's ensuite cabin. She also has a pilot berth in the pilot house and an additional berth in the saloon if needed. The saloon is extremely spacious and has a galley perfectly designed for use at sea with large fridge and freezer custom built and installed in 2015 and a newly installed GN Espace Levante three burner with oven cooker.

On Deck:
Lochmarin's deep protected stern cockpit is followed by a bridge deck to the companionway and pilot house.She has a Raymarine below decks hydraulic autopilot (new pump 2017) which we use constantly for steering and a Monitor wind self-steerer for ocean passages.

Engine and propulsion:
She has a 85hp Perkins M92b fitted in 2011 (2232hrs) . At cruising revs (1500rpm) she will make 7.5 Kts and use about 3.7 litres/hr.

Electrics:
Lochmarin is fitted with a 24 volt DC system (with a number of 24v/12v dropper transformers where required), a 240 volt 50Hz AC system utilising either shore power via an Isolation Transformer or the onboard 7 kW Northern Lights generator (new 2011). A 1600w/24V 40 amp Inverter provides AC power from the house batteries when required.

To complement her 7KW generator she has 2x 200W and 2Ã—75 W solar panels and a D400 wind turbine allowing us to be energy self sufficient when on anchor

House system batteries: 4 off 12V 290Ah Rolls AGM batteries connected in series-parallel providing 580Ah primary capacity at 24 volts (equivalent to 1160Ah at 12 volts)

Navigation and Communications:
RayMarine Integrated series G system(installed 2009) comprising: Chart Plotter preloaded with entire worldwide set of Navionics Charts at Chart Table; 4kW RayMarineDigital Hi-Resolution 48mile Open Array Scanner (on mizzen mast at crosstrees).

Full set of ST60 RayMarine Instruments comprising: Speed/Log; Depth; Wind Speed/Direction; Closehauled Wind
Instruments all located on forward side of cockpit (visible from Helm) and repeating via SeaTalk to Nav System

AIS: RayMarine AIS650 Class B Transceiver (2012) with dedicated GPS on coachroof and transmitting/receiving via dedicated VHF antenna. Output fed to integrated Nav System in Pilot House.

Forward Facing Echo Sounder: EchoPilot forward looking echo sounder with dedicated monitor (mountable in cockpit)

GPS: RayMarine primary GPS integrated within Nav System. Furuno GPS-32 secondary independent unit in Pilot House

Weatherfax: Furuno Fax/Navtex receiver in Pilot House

Barometers: Digital electronic barometer in Pilot House; Analog barometer in Saloon.

Communications Systems:

VHF

ICOM M-603 VHF with DSC and separate Command-mike in cockpit. Also allows machine generated fog signals and voice transmitted via mizzen-mounted loudhailer

SSB

ICOM M-801E MF/HF Radio with DSC transmitting via a A-141 Antenna Tuner and backstay antenna. Connected via PACTOR modem to facilitate email at sea.

PACTOR Modem

PACTOR Dragon 4 modem for high speed email communications at sea via specialist shore stations (eg Winlink or Sailmail)

Sails and Rigging:
She is ketch rigged with fully battened main and mizzen, twin poled Yankees, staysail, lightweight genoa, cruising chute (in sock), mizzen staysail. Heavy weather sails comprise a storm trysail (on separate track) and hanked on storm jib. The rig was completely renewed in 2009 and comprises all stainless steel wires with StaLok fittings on both ends of each stay.

Miscellaneous Equipment:
Cathelco Seafresh 240V AC Automatic Watermaker making 150 litres/hour of fresh water. Automatic 7 day cycle Fresh Water flush system which avoids need to pickle watermaker unless decommissioning for some time. Unit fitted new in 2012.

Your boat looks very nice, and should make the next owner very happy. It would sure be a "dream boat" for me.

I like everything I see in it. I particularly like the pilot house helm/nav station, and the outstanding galley! And the master stateroom is very nice. Overall, outstanding!

FYI: I will post some photos of your boat in a thread here on CF that is called "Outstanding Boats" which is a personal selection of boats I see that really do stand out. I would also like to include a layout image, and another profile image, as I usually do. Send me a PM if you don't want that, but I will assume you won't mind the additional exposure.
