World Cruiser <$65,000 now + more later

Yes, I'm starting two threads for boats we want to buy - the problem is that we can really go in two directions right now in terms of cost/size, and we want to explore both options.

The long term plan is a "sail around the world" boat. This thread is about the search for that boat. The current plan (knock on wood, fingers crossed, all that stuff) is to set off in January of 2024.

Any boat we buy now does not have to be in "circumnavigation ready" condition - in fact, at this price point, I'd be pleasantly surprised to find one that was. We're expecting to spend another $20k (or more) to get anything we buy ready to circumnavigate (but that $20k is going to be spent the year before we leave, not now).

However, any boat we buy now does have to be in "weekend cruising on the Chesapeake" ready (or able to be put in that condition at our current price point).

We're definitely looking for the classic heavy-displacement, full keel, skeg-hung rudder, etc, etc cruiser.

Besides the sort of standard "blue water cruiser" stuff mentioned above, here is the biggest "unusual" requirement we have:

The main sleeping berth must be built in such a way that neither person has to crawl over the other person in order to get in or out. So far we've seen exactly two configurations that accomplish this:
a. a pedestal berth (e.g. the aft cabin of a Gulfstar Hirsch 45)
b. a split berth (e.g. the aft cabin of a Hallberg-Rassy 42, where you don't sleep athwartships, but longitudinally with a gap between you.)

Other minor notes:
-It really does need to be sailable as a weekend cruiser right now (or least could be brought to weekend cruising status within our current budget).
-The current budget needs to be inclusive of delivery skipper, potential import duties, etc.

So, any suggestions, offers, etc?

Thanks!

"Pedestal" berths do not work very well at sea. At your price point, you should be able to for example buy a Gulfstar 50 in good condition.

with current inflation you need to double your $20 k budget for buying your new cruising equipment to 40K for 2023 prices, however the morgan or gulfstar 50 (as an example)will probably be at a similar price point, however it will be 5years older, making already old rigging and equipment virtually obsolete and in need of replacement.

newish production boats that are currently out of you price range will probably be more in your price range by then
