Re: Alabama fire: Eight killed as blaze engulfs 35 boats in marina

I've stayed at these marina in AL, KY and TN. You see very old boats with very scary wiring onboard and on the dock. I believe 3 boats burned in TN just a few years back. A boat sank at our marina near Nashville and the drivers found 2!!! more sunk in the same slip under the most recently (and insured) sunk

Nope. Neither do the investigators of that incident... yet. I just regurgitated what is in the news.

I don’t have any personal evidence that the world isn’t flat either. I can only have an opinion of my observations.

Yes, indeed. If you google the LOCAL news stories on the incident

The news??? They get it wrong for a living! As Paul L pointed out, an actual battery meltdown is a much more likely suspect. If you've never seen even a small LiPo battery fire, it's pretty impressive.

That's just one small LiPo battery, only 1100 mAh.

If you have a table full of batteries charging and one goes up, look out!

Paul L did not say a battery melt down was much more likely. He asked if I had any evidence that the fire was due to a generic overload vs a battery melt down and I said no. Some would say they are either the same or could cause one another. If a circuit can’t handle the current, bad things will happen. Could be as simple as a dirty connection.

Witnessing something, although strong in a court of law, is the weakest in science.

“News” is opinion. The opinion you referenced is YouTube.

In ACTUAL journalism, opinion should always be labeled as such. "News" reporters are supposed to do just that, report. They are supposed to report the facts of an incident, not their opinion. In the case of a tragedy such as the m/v Conception, there may be officials expressing suspicions and possibilities, but if they're doing their jobs properly, they don't express opinions. That's part of why it often takes a year or longer for the USCG, NTSB, etc. to publish findings.

The YT link I posted was NOT opinion, it was an example of the factual danger posed by a damaged LiPo battery.

An overloaded AC circuit should result in a tripped circuit breaker or blown fuse. Or are you are positing that a CG inspected passenger vessel would have such sub-standard AC wiring that a simple overload could start a fire?

JOURNALISTS? The ones that graduated from respectable schools like NorthWestern - those are the REAL JOURNALISTS.

Every article should tell you everything you need to know in the first and second paragraphs: The who, what, where, when & why.
When was the last time you saw that?

I agree. Unfortunately, real journalism is pretty close to extinct.
Everybody wants to be first, not much emphasis on being correct.
