Re: Boat Sinking in Miami

Well done. And good vid too. Thanks for sharing!

Initially, I thought it was about the driver ... ;-)))

Jokes aside, good maneuver and good thinking there.

Years ago a sailing magazine put that to the test...and indeed a motivated sailor with a bucket can outperform most manual & eletric bilge pumps for a short period of time before fatigue sets in.

A bucket would have been a much better tool to dewater the cockpit; a relatively inexpensive manual bilge pump would have been better than what was being used. It's always easier to anticipate your emergency needs and prepare in advance before those needs arise. I wonder if the owner had a basic first aid kit, fire extinguisher, signaling device or communication equipment (I suspect there were likely several cell phones aboard, at the very least).
Never leave the dock without a bucket!

Another tactic if u have the time is to pull the transom plug and go like a bat out of he!! That will suck some of the water out. Don’t ask me how I know.

I’d have put that fat driver on the bow!

Re: Boat Sinking in Miami

a: Perfect - Taxi is to retrieve the trailer, retrieve the boat.

If that's too far, then b: Chubbies to the bow. Stern to the beach. Doesn't appear to be much tide to go out, or in, but regardless, that could give the opportunity to drain the boat completely and temporarily fix the split, duct tape, epoxy, more buckets, idle back close to other beaching locations w Lifeys on.

Do not do b: if risk of rotting transom giving way completely.
And don't do a: either. Engines spinning down tarmac sounds expensive.
