Catamaran v Utility Wires Vero Beach

The boat in these pics drifted into overhead electric wires just south of the Vero Beach 17th St Bridge last week. The pole in the foreground of the first picture is one of the utility poles carrying power to the island. The boat would have cleared the central section near the fixed bridge, but the wires are lower closer to shore. The boat caught fire and is partially sunk. There was no one aboard at the time.

The pictures are from this AM, one week after the event. We go over the bridge nearly daily and haven't seen anyone around or aboard the boat in the intervening week.
