NTSB: One Check Valve May Not Be Enough...

Hello all,

Here is an article based on a NTSB investigation: One Check Valve May Not Be Enough to Keep Your Vessel Afloat

https://www.maritime-executive.com/a...-sink-a-vessel

- some floating debris can jam a check valve. how to deal with that?.
- did that wire nut come from inside the boat or from the outside?
- do you keep any seacock always open?
- would you consider installing any kind of sieve on the outlets

Cheers,

Ismael.

Re: NTSB: One Check Valve May Not Be Enough...

I have been involved in many industrial safety reviews. NEVER was a check valve allowed as a risk reduction in a life safety situation. They are not simply not reliable for preventing back flow.

They work, right up until they do not. Then people die. That is not acceptable.
