Genetic studies in Iceland reveal about 19% of the males and 62% of the females have Irish/British Isles DNA. Males are 80% and women are 37% Norwegian.

But that's besides the point..

Re: Orcas appear to have sunk a sailboat- what now?

I would try building a decoy to be towed behind the boat or released.

A piece of ply 3’ by 1-1/2’ painted black with flotation on one end a weight on the other so it floats upright.

Give the something to play with or chew in that is not your rudder.

No clue if it would work but worth a try.

If possible make it squeak when squeezed.

Well I saw a video where the young Orca's ignored the yacht and tossed around a dinghy that was being towed off the stern.. This was off the Portuguese coast.
Don't tow one off these.. the Orca's will just join in the chase..

To avoid any interference is the best way to go.

Or the use of ac electric pasture fence appliance?

Don't just kill them. The problem will not be solved this way.

It's their habitat not ours.
I've never understood the mindset that somehow relegates large swaths of the planet we live on to "their environment". It's all "our" environment. All who can coexist peacefully are welcome to do so. If something attacks my boat, it should expect a significant response regardless of whether it is a two legged pirate or a marine mammal.

These are not unintelligent creatures; why do you presume that there cannot be purely pathologic behavior amongst killer whales? Unsocialized male elephants are known to engage in it, for example. This actually seems to support that idea: "After studying photos and video footage of the encounters, a working group of Spanish and Portuguese experts, including marine biologists and government officials, has identified three orcas present in 61% of the incidents."

At some point, elimination of pods engaging in this behavior needs to be considered for the benenfit of the species, not only for our own benefit.

There if a good chance that Orcas are attacking (if that is even their intention) because humans have attacked or otherwise hurt them in the past. If humans continue to harm them, either those individual Orcas, or family members are likely to respond in kind.
As for the bible quote, that book also tells us how we should treat our unfaithful wives, slaves, captured enemies etc. Anyway, "dominion" means that we should respect rather than exploit or abuse them. https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid...74988249361970

Re: Orcas appear to have sunk a sailboat- what now?

Lest we think governments wouldn't act against the Orcas, look at this:

https://edition.cnn.com/2022/08/14/w...rnd/index.html

The Norwegian Government has acted to take the life of a Walrus in order to protect humans.

"The decision to euthanize the walrus was made based on an overall assessment of the continued threat to human safety," said Frank Bakke-Jensen, the director general at the Norwegian Directorate of Fisheries, in a news release."
