I see , clearly the problem is overfed orcas. There a small conflict in Northern Europe that needs your analytical powers.

Re: Orcas appear to have sunk a sailboat- what now?

I am really appalled by what i read here and in many forums about the orca's.

And even more about what is the general feeling from sailors/cruisers about these happenings.

Which is rather opposite to the also said supposed goals of cruisers to venture out sailing to.... experience nature, discover the world, have freedom etc etc

It makes at least to me very clear that those are still in a mindset that regardless what is interfering with their own invented plans, this is qualified as bad and one has to counter this or nag about supposed lost possibilities, extra costs etc etc.

Let me tell you, this is not how nature works! Regardless of all the gadgets you installed to limit any of natures risks. This is one you haven't got one for. So, Deal with it!, or stay home. But don't nag about it.

Nobody, absolutely no one is forcing those cruising sailors to go there or be there!

It is like information states, the top of the vulcano might erupt.
But you are still going and when it erupts, you start nagging about your hot ass and expensive burned pair of pants.
And Oh dear, even worse; your own invented but now lost plans.

Don't put your own responsibility for your own choices on the vulcano or orca's.
Some people might just call your choices stupid.

You sail or plan to sail oceans, 10-40 K miles or more but are not willing to sail an extra 300-500 miles to avoid all this?

You are with your plans invading a natural habitat, aka the home of the orca’s, that until now there where no problems. But that does not mean, you have any right to be there or can justify a need to be there.

It is your own choice to do so anyway, your own responsibility only!
So deal with it, and stop Nagging!

Although I might not have worded a response to the issue with such flamboyant language, I believe you have presented a cogent argument. Cruising is a luxury, no matter how it is carried out or envisioned. On the other hand, the orcas are out there earning a living.

Sinking is “experiencing nature”, but it is not a goal for most sane cruising sailors.

Yoko Ono's "Scream" might do the trick. Or any of her fine recordings.

What about Slim Whitman's work as seen on "Mars Attacks!!"??

Do Orca's only target sailboats or do they also target PWC's and paddleboarders? One Orca would feed a small village in Africa. Oh yeah, and what now?

What now, I guess we all want to know did the whale survive the attack, and did the mariner's insurance cover the loss?

Re: Orcas appear to have sunk a sailboat- what now?

On May 5, a Sun Odyssey 519 sank off the coast of Barbate, Spain.

The 4 people on board, safe and sound, tried to tow it, but it was full of water.

Re: Orcas appear to have sunk a sailboat- what now?

Sure if I drive over your lunch/dinner plate you won't be happy too...besides this the orca kids waiting bored at the surface till their mums are below get food so your sailboat is a welcomed toy to not get bored.

Everyone going to this area should register at www.orcas.pt and get added to the telegram group. Also install Orcinius App.
The position of the Orcas and area where they are is posted daily so its no problem to avoid them.
No member of the telegram group got attacked till now.

General rule from the scientists that follow the Orcas with a boat is to stay close to shore in less then 20m depth. If you get attacked motor with WOT direction shore to leave the area and force them to leave their pod. Works, they tested it.

There's video of this latest incident. It's hard to tell exactly what's going on, but there's enough there to see the aggressive behavior.
