La Paz, La Paz, Baja California Sur - Webcams de México
Sorry, don't know when this camera went "down"...but there is "Pantera" clearly at anchor in La Paz.

Re: Pantera La Paz Mexico

I don’t see Pantera in the harbor right now (I’m anchored in the Mogote) but he hangs around at Justine’s on the Malecon. I had a beer with him in late July/early August - he seemed fine and in good spirits. I’ll ask at Justine’s this evening when I go to shore

Re: Pantera La Paz Mexico

You might try contacting Geary, the Sonrisa net weather guy in Bahia Concepcion. His email is: sunrisanet@gmail.com

I'm in a marina and get little to no reception on the morning SSB and Ham nets, but Geary can certainly send out a message.

Re: Pantera La Paz Mexico

Word went out on the Sonrisa, Amigo, and the local La Paz Cruisers Net this morning along with Nets over on the mainland side as well so I'm sure Bob will turn up soon.

Re: Pantera La Paz Mexico

S/V Echo reports seeing Pantera leave BLA mid-November under sail. He told us in October that he had to get to La Paz to get his engine fixed, but was intending to stop in Conception on the way down to careen on a beach and paint the bottom.

Re: Pantera La Paz Mexico

Thanks Dolce.
We have reports of cruisers seeing him on Oct 19th and matching your comments about heading to La Paz with a stop in Conception. We have calls out to Gary of the Sonrisa net who lives in El Burro Cove in Conception bay via email and HF Radio during the net. bob will turn up soon, and it often the case unaware that folks were worried and looking for them.

Re: Pantera La Paz Mexico

found this on fb....yes he is still overdue...

Laurie Marc Provencal This is from Rich and Jan Zink on Sagitare... "Rich and I saw his boat and spoke with him on vhf on Nov 10 in canal salsipuedes on our way back to san carlos from BLA. He wanted a weather report. We told him the first BIG norther was due to hit and he needed to get moving to get in to santa rosalia or somewhere safe. We saw him get a spinnaker up and shortly after we couldn't see him anywhere, which seemed odd". ...They are contacting Latitude 38 with the info they have.

Re: Pantera La Paz Mexico

this is what i hate........ seeing or hearing about detritus that used to be a friend or acquaintance. i hope bob is alive and not broken.
i hope someone finds him .
capsized and stripped probably and usually means mexican salvage has been effected by locals. there are islands near loreto with no light from north only lit from and to south. soc is not the easy sailing most consider it to be. many obstacles to sailing boats especially in darkness. i hope that bob is ok and locateable.
this sucks.

found in facebook:
Kenny Knoll An announcement was made today La Paz net that the boat was found, capsized and stripped, there was no word on the whereabouts of the crew. Thoughts and prayers go to the fiends and family from Jersey Girl

Catamaran " PANTERA" FOUND North of Punta Chivato upside down on shore. Bob was not on the boat. Mulege police involved. Boat appeared to have been stripped !

Re: Pantera La Paz Mexico

mexican navy also is coming into the picture. bob is still missing as are his cats.

seems he may have tripped on a sea in the developing norther and flipped either pitchpole or flip via a gust. there are some healthy gusts preceding all windinesses, so the warning we are granted may have taken him over as he was using spinnaker and had looong amas afore his cockpit. the witnessing folks said he raised spinnaker then strangely was no longer in sight. is only splaination i can imagine other than tripping over a sleeping whale.
i hope against hope he is alive and recovering from the disaster.

Re: Pantera La Paz Mexico

It has been confirmed with the Mexican authorities that Pantera was found on the beach north of Mulege and the authorities are working to positively identify the recovered body.

Out of respect for the family additional details are being sent directly to them and not posted on the public forum.

His daughter Natalie has been notified of the details and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. The entire Mexican cruising community and everyone that knew Bob is deeply saddened today.

From what I understand, he was a man living his dream, and that is the greatest thing in the universe outside of faith.

I'd hope to do the same someday.

Re: Pantera La Paz Mexico

"Thomas Woodard Hello all. Several weeks ago, a body was found of a Caucasian man near Coronado, off of Loreto. I will go and compare this photo with what they have. All the police told me was that it was a Caucasian man, older, partial wet suit, and had been in the water for approximately two days. I will check this out and post back here"

daughter has read these. daughter saw pic of pantera on rocks all smashed up. the pic brought tears to my aged hardened eyes, i can imagine what she felt. this is all from fb group talkbaja to which daughters are members. requests were made for identifying marks on bob.
" Bad news for the Pantera . 1 mile north of Punta Chivato light house"
