Quite a blow in Bimini

I haven't been able to find much news on the rain and wind storm that hit Bimini yesterday, but I saw this Tweet today.

Re: Quite a blow in Bimini

Evidently, the Alice Town [Bimini] wind station is currently down.

Yesterday [Nov 16], the wind was ENE, @ 43 km/h [26.7 mph]
According to ➥ https://www.timeanddate.com/weather/@3572806/historic
But:
According to ➥ https://www.thehulltruth.com/florida...razy-wind.html
Port Everglades [Ft Lauderdale] had a [SE] wind gust of 79 mph.

Re: Quite a blow in Bimini

One possible explanation, for the apparent discrepancy, between the, previously reported, wind reports, may be that, the Bimini wind station ‘blew out’, at the 43 km/h gust, and never recorded the highest winds.

Carysfort Reef Lighthouse saw 86mph in that storm. https://www.miamiherald.com/news/loc...281942433.html

Re: Quite a blow in Bimini

Ha, I just returned from a 5 day cruise to the B'mas, I can attest to the horrid weather for almost the entire time we were on the ship. To say it blew like stink would be an understatement. Our 80,000 ton ship was being tossed around like a toy.

I've crossed the Gulf Stream several times in norther's, but last week was on a different scale. I can honestly say, I've never seen such confused and tumultuous seas ever in my life. Our cabin was two decks up from the ocean, and waves were breaking on our balcony.

Planned stops were cancelled due to the weather, as the ferry boats that take passengers off the ship were not able to do so. One such tour/sightseing boat capsized in Nassau, causing a fatality.

The ships wind speed indicator could be seen on the cabin TV, and it was mind boggling. I could not say what the max wind speed was, but it was north of 65 mph, where it seemed to spend most of it's time

I stepped out onto the balcony a few times and my mind could simply not take in what my eyes were seeing. A sailboat in that mess would have been in a precarious position for sure. The seas were chaotic, much like a a very big washing machine.

On top of the wind, it was also raining.

There were people on the ship wearing lifejackets thinking that a call to the life boats was going to be imminent.

Crazy weather.
