Super Typhoon “Yagi” having already caused deaths [20 people dead, and 26 others missing?] , and heavy damage, in the Philippines, landed in China’s [Wenchang] Hainan, on Friday, leaving at least 2 dead and 92 injured.
On Friday night, Yagi crossed Qiongzhou Strait, north of Hainan, and made its second landfall, in Guangdong, with winds still exceeding 125 mph [200km/h].
Typhoon ‘Yagi’ made landfall, Saturday afternoon, in northern Vietnam’s provinces of Quang Ninh and Haiphong, with wind speeds of up to 92 mph [149km/h], and killing a woman, in the capital, Hanoi.
With maximum sustained winds of 145 mph [234km/h, category-4 typhoon], near its centre, ‘Yagi’ registered as the world’s second-most powerful tropical cyclone, so far this year [after the category-5 Atlantic Hurricane Beryl], and the most severe of 2024, in the Pacific basin.
