Newport, RI Charter

Hi,

Planing a charter on a 43ft monohull sailboat in August starting from Newport. RI. My question is it worth it to go first to Block Island and then head up to Martha’s Vineyard? Ok just go first to Cuttyhunk and then on to Martha’s Vinyard the next day. Is Block Island worth the trip away from my main destination, Martha’s Vineyard. Thanks.

Re: Newport, RI Charter

Depends on how much time you have. Block is close, but upwind from Newport with the prevailing sea-breeze. Most try to motor it early in the day before the breeze fills in. Everything else is downwind from there.

I only have a week harter. So I’m thinking king of passing on Block Island and going to the Martha’s Vineyard area first. Never before block island so I don’t lnie if irs worth the time away fro the other destinations. Thanks

It can be pretty nice on a weekday. The weekends, the anchorage/mooring field is full and the music from the restaurant/bar is loud and goes late.

In my opinion, Cuttyhunk is far nicer than Block.

Re: Newport, RI Charter

Cuttyhunk has no 'things'
Block has 'some things'
MV- has 'all things' but still an island feel.

We are out of Buzzards Bay, and generally look for no things, or all things - usually skip some things.
