Advanced First Aid - TeleHealth

I’m looking for a tele-health service where I can be connected to a doctor and they can walk me through treating immediate life threatening injuries. I’m familiar with DAN, but looking for other options.

Background: I’m a Wilderness First Responder and my wife is a Physical Therapist. We are comfortable in emergency situations and comfortable working on the human body. If for example one of our kids has an appendix burst mid Pacific crossing, we’d need a doctor to walk us through preforming the surgery.

You may find the thread below helpful and no - please don't perform surgery at sea...

Posts #16 and #46 are especially relevant, but all responses may allay your fears somewhat.

Doximity or Teladoc are companies that do that, and might be worth researching.

Re: Advanced First Aid - TeleHealth

Such services are expensive. If you are concerned, first invest in training and then...onboard equipment and supplies.
There are a LOT of commercial vessels who do have med phones and would gladly relay step by step instructions.
Cruise ship physicians are a good source for recommendations on training and equipment.
Consider that children as passengers require more care and route planning.
Time and distance to rescue or time to hospitals.
You cannot carry supplies for every medical emergency but sometimes oxygen, an Epipen or a good medical kit can make all the difference.
Happy trails to you.
The manatee crew.
