Re: Inside Passage to Alaska

The Inside Passage is pretty nice and mostly an easy motor sail with lts of anchorages to stop in. As you've been warned watch the weather. If it is a wet summer -- which it can be-- its nice to have a heater onboard. We really enjoyed doing the west coast of the Queen Charlottes, but it is not protected from the Pacific weather.

Re: Inside Passage to Alaska

Last summer we bought a Hunter 410 in Washington and brought it to Alaska. We found fuel not to be a problem burning about a gal/hr out of a 50 gal tank making an average of 7kts. At a quart an hour and knowing your speed you can do the math. We stowed 20 gal in jerry cans and didn't need it. We motored the vast majority of the way. An important strategy is to time you travel to avoid fighting tidal currents. Makes a huge difference
