my ac water drips into the bilge

My ac unit in my 384 is mounted forward of the double sinks Just to port of the center line. Thus it trickles down into the centerline bilge.
I want to stop the bilge from being wet. I have been 3 days around the AC unit trying to find out just where it drips from ? I see the coil and a little water below it but In never seems full ? Some place there must be some sort of drain ?
I would like to collect this water and Use a micro pump and pump it to the sink drain instead of filling up the bilge than pumping out . My goal is a dryer boat !
Other than trying to remove the unit My unit is a Ocean Marine 16 K Made in Ft Lauderdale, They are no longer in bussiness. 384 morgan 1982

Re: my ac water drips into the bilge

Yes, the condensation from the coil drains to ?. Usually there is a hose connected to direct it to the bilge or somewhere. My AC for example went to a tuperware bowl with a little hose connected to a venturi that sucked it out while it ran, however this kept getting plugged so i removed it. I have been meaning to reroute to the shower sump. So I suspect that somewhere on your trya under the unit is a drain to which you can connect a hose and run to wherever you want. May have to pick it up and look at it.

You should be dripping into a condensate pan either stainless or plastic. It should have a hole draining the water into the bilge. I have a Hunter 356 and years ago put in a plastic thru hull port at the original hole ( had to drill or out and cut slots in the top for drainage) connected it to my shower sump with a see-thru reinforced water hose. Put biocide tablets in your condensate pan frequently to keep growth limited and to keep your hose clear.

If you can't get to the shower sump, then install one in the bilge and pump to your sink drain as you suggested.

Feel around the outside of the pan, you should find a few drain nipples.
If you use it underway, you want to connect to two opposite side nipples so that so either tack one will drain.
Shower drain is best, it also keeps the shower sump cleaner as it's often flushed with clear water.

I've been very happy with this device to pump my A/C condensate overboard. No moving parts or power required.

Be careful, health-wise, with that condensate. Google some of the origins of Legionnaires (sp) outbreaks.

Wouldn't the water from other sources sitting in the bilge be even more likely to breed bugs that can cause disease?

I put a condensator from above post in last year. Now dry bilge other than rain water from mast.

I highy recommend the Mermaid Condensator. It simply move all of the A/C condensate water into the outflow of the A/C cooling water. Install it and forget it...

Re: my ac water drips into the bilge

Why not drill a hole in the hull at the bottom of the bilge to let the bilge water drain into the sea ?

yes, you can get a ejector valve from mermaid, it works very well, have installed on several boats, not cheap

My AC units drip to a tray and then thru a hose from the tray to my shower sumps, so when it fills up it pumps it over the side

save it to a tank through a water filter / you have a desalinator

Keep your bilge clean, and dry daily (or every 2 days).

Legionella grow best in sediment and slime in a temperature of between 20º and 50º C (ideally between 35º and 46º C). Places where warm water remains stagnant for more than 48 to 72 hours and parts of water plumbing systems that are used infrequently (less than once per week) may provide good environments for Legionella growth. Sediment,
rust, scale, and sludge provide good food sources for the bacteria .

Re: my ac water drips into the bilge

I've given up trying to have the bilge dry all the time, so I just let the air conditioning condensate go into the bilge and don't worry about it.
