NZ to OZ?

Will be in NZ Aukland end Nov. Quite poss will buy next boat whilst there, compass 28 or custom 34, if still available and exchange rate still good. Anyone with info on best time of year/route from NZ to Oz. Departure point NZ doesn't concern me as I can always get to departure point. Would prefer to end up in Far Nth Qld, but can handle central NSW. No timetable so departure date doesn't concern me either. Just looking for best time of year to do the deed.
Currently checking out weather patterns and currents, but would appreciate 1st hand knowledge.
Also 1st big crossing, largest to date 3days for 250nm. Will be 2 of us on the trip if it comes off, if not the trip will be reversed sometime mid 2010.
Have read of black spots ??nth of NZ, are these uncharted waters, bad comm areas, no weather reports??? From memory they were talking NZ/Fiji, but can't find the site/discussion again.

Best times probably early autumn late spring when the high pressure systems have moves far enough south to give a reasonable pressure gradient at right latitude, a large slow moving High with a central pressure of less tha 1030 should give a good ride and you can play the edge of it for the winds you want and should be SE going E as you get into Tasman

Done this about 15 times. I would leave from Opua around the end of April, beginning of May and go to Noumea. Then drift across to QLD at your leisure.
