DIY haulout

We’re an Aussie cat (13.7 x 7.3m) looking for a haul out place in Chesapeake area 3-4 months August-December 2024? We’d like to do our own work (antifouling etc) and would like access to a rigger happy to help us replace standing rigging. On the wish list is also replacing ageing cork decking with something like Flexiteek. Any recommendations to help us greatly appreciated.

Re: DIY haulout

Try Herrington Harbor https://www.herringtonharbour.com They might be able to haul a cat. I believe the still allow DIY maintenance and have access to many pros to fill in where needed.

Re: DIY haulout

I have a friend with a Leopard 40 who had it pulled at Dennis Point Marina near Solomons. I know that they let him work on it. I'm not sure about riggers - but being near Solomons I'm sure that there are a few around. I have no idea what the haul-out or storage costs are.

Are you thinking you'd replace the standing rigging while on the hard? Not sure that will be allowed.

Probably could just have the mast removed via crane truck while in the travel lift slip and work the rigging with the mast on the ground. That is a pretty common approach.

Re: DIY haulout

Deltaville Marina is very DIY friendly. They might be able to haul your cat.

Re: DIY haulout

I haul my mono at Herrington. They are diy friendly. With rules. No livaboard on the hard. Vacuum sanders, tenting hull wile sanding…. I’ve seen more than a few cats on the hard there. Lots of water and electric in the working areas. Great showers, restaurants nearby west marine on site, great hardware store down the road, lots of marine services on site as well…
