Trampolin material

Where can I find material to build my own trampoline for a trimaran?

Re: Trampolin material

What kind of material are you searching for? And in what part of the world are you searching?

We, for instance, used UHMWPE fishing net as our tramps. An open weave, super strong. But also zero stretch/give, so it loads up the attachment points significantly more than a stretch material. Also not comfortable for lounging on.

Check out Gordon's website for types of materials that get used, if you can point to something that is in the range of what you are looking for it will be easier to point you toward a supplier.

Re: Trampolin material

The material does not matter.... I think a strong fishing net will be fine...
Anything with holes...
I am in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada
Try to be cheap on it.

Understood, it was just an easy place to see ideas. Our nets are Ultra Cross fishing net, which we picked up in BC. Searching around for the name of the supplier now (not sure I can find it). On your side of the country Crimond supply it.

These kinds of nets are commonly used in fish farming and in trawling, so looking for the local commercial fishing supply is the best, given you are a bit away from the sea not sure what that looks like, but if you can connect with places that supply trawlers they should be able to hook you up with small (to them) pieces in any variety of materials.

Re: Trampolin material

If you go the commercial net path, make sure it's a knotless net. Much more comfortable.

Also keep the mesh holes less than 50mm wide. Ours are 50mm and its not super comfortable. 30mm seems good. Less and the waves catch to much in it.

Besides the fishing industry you also find nets used in the construction industry. Might be reasonable priced.

Make sure what you buy is UV resistant.

Re: Trampolin material

Gianfranco just make sure your home made net can't spread. I was on a 50 foot cat and the net opened up enough for a guy to fall through and get a giant wedgie. Let's just say he squashed the family jewels and spent a fair bit of time on the deck in the fetal position afterwards.
Cheers

Re: Trampolin material

Same here, we sourced our trampolines from a fishery net supply wholesaler. We opted for 22mm knotless polyester - nice and open, reasonably comfortable to lie on, and very little noticeable stretch when pulled tight.

The minimum order was for 1.5 times as much as we needed, so we’ve got lots of vege hammocks and net bags with the remainder.
