Fitting lithium batteries in old battery boxes

I bought some LiFePO4s to replace my AGMs. They are smaller than my AGMs were. In fact, I could be wrong, but it seems like lithium batteries don't have a standard size, and I can't find another battery box that would fit exactly. So to make them fit in the current boxes I'll pack them in with something.

What would be safe? I prefer something a bit flexible, so foam packing or styrofoam would be my first choice, but how hot do lithium batteries get? I don't want material that will melt. What do you all use?

well there are LFP packaged into the standard lead acid box footprints, but you already have them so .....

They don't really seem to get hot. The packaged ones all have fillers in the boxes to take up space. Just use some styrofoam

Re: Fitting lithium batteries in old battery boxes

The boxes work if the LA batteries leak. You no longer need them for LFP batteries with sealed type box. Maybe you can gift them to those who need them. After fixing a solid thick wood or plywood board to the polyester with plenty of silicone and small screws, it is possible to screw the batteries on it or tie it tightly with solid belt scarves. Smart bluetooth bms also gives cell temperature information. In summer, when the weather is 25-30C, the cells do not rise above 40-45C.

Also, Lithium batteries don't need to be in boxes. Just secure them so they can't move. They don't get hot (unless something is very wrong and they are about to catch fire) and don't need ventilation.

I realize that from the other similar thread on here. I just want them secured so they aren't being thrown around, and don't want to drill any more holes in my boat so the current battery boxes are ideal for that.

Second to some kind of foam to keep from sliding. That’s what we use.

Re: Fitting lithium batteries in old battery boxes

As others said use foam boards to fill spaces.
If you can line them up you can also use threaded rods to clamp them in space.
Do you have drop ins or single cells?

Did the batteries come in boxes with foam?
