We are talking about LiFePo4 here which is much much safer than the original LiPo technology.

@T1 Terry
I was on your wife's excellent website t1lithium.com.au and did not see a BMS listed. I was wondering what you use for yours.

Am I missing something? $1850 for 300ah? The one linked within would be cheaper.

Maybe you posted the wrong link. That link shows 300aH GWL LiFePO battery for $1850. Now check out the shipping! To US, over $550 for 300aH.

The Chins "300aH" battery is sold on Amazon for $1300 and shipping within USA is free! And the dimensions are more compatible with existing Group D size, mainly the height might be a problem for me.

It will be great to hear experience of the OP with Chins battery.

Exactly, I thought these Winston batteries were supposed to be very cheap which doesn’t seem to be the case here. The Chins battery has my eye.

Stay away from sailing, a sailboat is too dangerous
It can sink, it will get into a storm and everything will break on it, just when you don't know

Re: I bought a 300ah Chins lithium batter on Amazon

Battery came in today.

I decided to go with 2/0 wire for a 5 foot circuit at 200 amps with a 200 amp fuse going from battery to shunt to 2000 watt charger/inverter. Wire is sized for overkill. Feel free to critique where my head is at so far on this first simple bit.

I'm stuck until the hydraulic crimper gets here tomorrow. I couldn't find a big enough crimper anywhere that I looked so I had to order one. Didn't realize the crimper would be that hard to find.

I did waste three terminals and about four inches of wire trying to crimp with a vise, dull chisel, and a mini sledge. That was fun. I got one on there pretty good but it didn't look trustworthy, to say the least.

How’s the setup looking?

Re: I bought a 300ah Chins lithium batter on Amazon

Been non-stop buttholes and elbows for the past week as I've been working through installing this and learning how to do this kind of stuff for the first time.

Installed in the quarter berth.

The Chins battery came with a little booklet that said I needed to perform a deep discharge and then a full charge first. I'm in the process of doing that now through the inverter running at about 20 amps on average with computers and TVs on, etc.

So far no issues at all it's working fantastically. I haven't put any big loads on it yet but I will.

I also found an incredibly corroded terminal block where the 120 volts ac neutral and hot are distributed to the outlets. Took a while for me to get all that figured out and replace it.

New battery lugs versus old battery lugs.

Re: I bought a 300ah Chins lithium batter on Amazon

Took the new Chins battery down to low voltage alarm and then charged it all the way back up to 100%. It took the full 100 amp charge without an issue and took about 2 hours and 50 minutes or so to get the full.

I know there's probably other information in my monitor that I haven't accessed yet.

So far the honeymoon phase is in full effect and have found no issues.

Congrats on the new battery. Let us know what you find with its performance. I hope they continue to work out for you!
