Large 24v Alt. to 12V

Hello to all the knowledgeable folks out there.
I have a few large body 24volt alternators, & one has an external regulator, (Niehoff C653 260A @24v) & I think it is brushless. I will try to attach a similar picture.
Can they have an external 12v reg. fitted or is the field resistance wrong to go that low. There is a FF169A 12v reg for sale that looks the same.
I have a small camper that I take fishing & I could PTO mount it.
I realize the output maybe lower but that would not matter a great deal.

No doesn't work, 12v and 24V are different.
