Re: Low Budget Lifepo4 Experiences anyone?

If we want to add an overall battery monitor to our 860Ah bank.

This:
https://www.amazon.com/AiLi-Battery-...age=en_US&th=1

is to small. Anyone know of a larger one with similar pricetag?

4200 w on 12v or 350A what is your larger power consumer.
you need https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3288...6bbf4c4dwBcDND

and depend location display battery bank exstension cabel

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3282...6bbf4c4dwBcDND

Re: Low Budget Lifepo4 Experiences anyone?

Ok.
Guess I misunderstood this.

I need to use the largest Amp draw and not the total battery capacity to decide on this. Dummie me.

Our largest individual power draw is 12A. If we draw from several items at once it will not be more 150Amp momentarely so the bigger one:
https://www.amazon.com/AiLi-Battery-...age=en_US&th=1
will easily fit our needs.

Thanks for clarifying.

If you are running an Inverter check the peak amp pull from it - A 3000w inverter has a momentary maximum peak of 500 amps.

Thanks, our inverter draws 1000w not more.

Now more info
summer 100w solar panel produces around 500-550 watt Mediterranean area
in winter 100 w solar panel produces an average 100w day
my boat consume in day 1200 -2000 with icemaker
in winter also around this number. diesel heather
all this with a 200w solar panel and a 200w semiflexible solar panel.
but I need more I think also exchange this panel 2x100w panel for one 400-440 solar panel

With everything you have posted for loads and bank size the meter you linked to with the 300 amp shunt is fine . Spend the extra 3 dollars for the 300 amp shunt .

Re: Low Budget Lifepo4 Experiences anyone?

Hi,

so here are updated schematics.

I looked at several options suggested in this thread and we kind of selected the following equipment listed below, which is also visible in the graphics.
We appreciate it if someone spots compatability issues.
At the bottom also two more questions.

A)
(3x) SOLAR PANELS 500Watt
https://sauerlaender-solarmarkt.de/d...20Englisch.pdf

B)
BATTERIES
As mentioned in my first post three sets of 4cells@3.2V cells giving a total of 3x280Ah=840Ah.
To be ordered coming winter, ready for long term cruising in 2022.
Possibly from a different source than the one mentioned in post No. 01 as their price went up considerably.

C)
(3x) BMS
I got a recommendation for this one by someone who is actually using it & happy with it:
https://www.lithiumbatterypcb.com/pr...ter-power-ups/

D)
(3x) MPPT SOLAR CONTROLLER
The solar panels datasheet say that they are giving not more than 14Amp each. To maximise redundancy, shadow resistance and efficiency we would get a dedicated 20A solar controller with display for each of them:
Epever Tracer 2210AN 20A
https://www.amazon.de/-/en/dp/B071GRK4J8/ref=emc_b_5_t
Am I correct in that (3x)20A MPPT conttroller is fine with these panels?

E)
MPPT DISPLAY
(3x) Epever MT50
https://www.amazon.de/-/en/EPEVER%C2...76Z4DZ44&psc=1

F)
(1x) TOTAL BATTERY DISPLAY 350A
https://de.aliexpress.com/item/10050...Log=new_Detail

As usual two questions ;-)
1)
Some folks said it would be good to divert excess charging current from the panels to a dump load.
We do already have a extra 800W 220V water heating element onboard and decided to keep our existing calorifier instead of the propane heater initially planned.
We would like to hook this heating element directly up as a diversion load for the solar panels.
Can someone please point us to a specific relay or equipment which would switch over the MPPT output supply to this heating element once we have the batteries charged to a certain voltage?
We will add a cheap 1000w inverter specifically for this.

2)
Fuse or breaker right after the battery main switch.
How do we size this properly?

Thats it for now, thanks!

Thanks for all the input so far.

Unfortunately not. You will need 3x controllers capable of handling 35A+.

Actually you forgot that the panels while yes put out 10.5 amps that is at 48vdc which means 40 amps at 12vdc nom.
So I would have to recommend the 40 amp unit for your chosen panels.

Re: Low Budget Lifepo4 Experiences anyone?

I am familiar with your chosen BMS and it's a quality product. However, be aware it was not designed for the marine environment so your installation will need to include water/salt air protection and the application of conformal coating.

Additionally, at the default settings it will not have any effective cell balancing. But that may not be an issue for you.
