Tesla battery packs for sale (5.2KW @ $1400)

I saw this and thought some might be interested.

There's a company in North Carolina that sells Tesla battery packs. They're 5.2KW and run ~$1400 (27" x 12" x 3") with a nominal voltage of 22.2V. You can order an optional BMS for it.

I don't know enough about this sort of thing to tinker with it myself, but for those that do just an FYI.

I have no affiliation nor knowledge of the company.

Well these Tesla packs are LI-IOn cells which are prone to thermal runaway and catching fire. Not the right lithium chemistry for a boat and no insurer will insure your boat then….

What chemistry are they? Tesla switched to Lithium Iron Phosphate in 2022 for their shorter range vehicles, but I think most of their long range vehicles, and vehicles built prior to 2022, are using nickel-cobalt-aluminum or nickel-cobalt-magnesium, which might be undesirable on a boat.

See my answer, these are 18650 cells. The LFP modules have a much lower energy density and therefore total capacity.
